Bugzilla – Bug 4449
Double Button Presses in SoftSqueeze
Last modified: 2008-03-06 17:05:11 UTC
I'm using SlimServer 6.5.1 - 10526 and SoftSqueeze 3.2, with Java 1.5.0_09 (but same problem with older versions of all 3). When I press a button on the SoftSqueeze remote, the software behaves like I've pressed it twice. This seems to be happening with all of the buttons on the remote. This makes using SoftSqueeze very difficult.
Ross, I can't seem to reproduce this. Have you ever seen an issue like this one?
FWIW, there are at least these other 2 people having the problem: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27917
I gave it the old college try and I wasn't able to reproduce this. I'm using 6.5.1 - 10610, java version 1.5.0_09, soft squeeze version 3.2 David do you see this all the time, or sometimes? Do you have any other java related issues? Chris, I have not seen this before, perhaps Kevin or Richard might know more?
It doesn't happen always -- I'd say 3 out of 4 times I press a button it will result in a double press. Sorry, I should have included this information in the original description. I'm not having any other Java related issues that I know of. Also, I should say that the issue persists after a complete uninstall and reinstall of Java. I'm using a ThinkPad T40p. I appreciate the help!
David, Would you mind seeing if there is an updated driver for your mouse? Also, do you have any settings on your system different than normal, perhaps anything with accessibility or mouse gesture applications? I'm still unable to reproduce this.
OK, I followed the gist of your suggestions and the problem is fixed! I went into the Mouse Properties control panel and, under the UltraNav tab (UltraNav is the name for the ThinkPad trackpoint/touchpad combo), I unchecked Enable Trackpoint. (The Trackpoint on ThinkPads is the red button thingy in the middle of the keyboard that you can use to control the mouse.) I then OKd out and the problem was fixed! I then went back in and reenabled the Enable Trackpoint setting, and the problem is still fixed. So turning off Enable Trackpoint even just temporarily was enough to do it. Thanks a lot for your help! Hopefully this will be a good resource if others have the same problem.
David, I'm very happy this is resolved! I'm even happier that you shared these simple instructions! I'll keep them in mind should this issue resurface.
Well, I think I spoke too soon in my previous post. The problem came back rather quickly after I thought I had fixed it (though it's taken me until now to post here about it). That is, I think that the problem's ceasing when I played around with the TrackPoint settings was mere coincidence.
David have you managed to reproduce this on more than one computer?
Yes, I am having the problem on a ThinkPad T40p, as well as on a T40.
I'm still unable to reproduce this. I wonder if it's something with the thinkpad mouse. Do you have any computers that aren't thinkpads to try this on? I don't have access to a thinkpad here at the office.
Richard does this sound familiar at all?
Thanks Wallace for your time earlier, we tried this on Wallace's T63 thinkpad, and we're not seeing it there either. David maybe try updating to SoftSqueeze 3.3?
I should have mentioned that I'm currently experiencing the problem with SoftSqueeze 3.3 I have used SoftSqueeze on a couple of other computers and have not encountered the problem.
David: has this improved with SoftSqueeze 3.5 in the latest 7.0 pre-release build?
Still can't reproduce this in 7.0, David if you or anyone else can please feel free to re-open this bug.
