Description David Brittain 2006-10-29 06:48:42 UTC
If I select 'search' from the web interface's homepage and type in an artist that is only present in the db as part of a compilation (i.e. a Various Artists album) then the artist is not found by the search. I have "group compilation albums together" set, but I would still expect the artist to show up in a search.
Comment 1 Chris Owens 2006-11-01 13:22:43 UTC
Would you also expect them to show up if you searched for various artists? I'm not asking to be sarcastic. I'm just trying to understand the behavior you're after.

Thanks for any info!

Say I want to find a track that is by REM that I know I have in my collection. And the only REM track I have is part of a various artists compilation. At the moment if I search for REM I will get no results. I would expect it to return the track that is part of the compilation album.

So, this is how Slimserver is written at the moment. I'll convert this to an enhancement request and we have a meeting scheduled to consider these in the very near future.

Are we talking only about the 'Advanced Search'? On my system, when using the 'basic' search, searching for a string that matches an artist name finds the artist, even if the artist is present only as part of a compilation album. In the Advanced Search, however, the artist does not appear. I'd consider that a bug, even if by design. Use the basic search... it's far more useful than the poorly thought out Advanced Search.

Do either or both of you have the COMPILATION flag set in appropriate tracks?
Comment 6 Jim McAtee 2006-11-08 12:09:44 UTC
I do. SlimServer finds all compilations just fine.
Comment 7 David Brittain 2006-11-08 17:20:29 UTC
I do too.

This used to work fine. Which version do I need to revert to to get this "feature" fixed. I don't want to wait for the committee meeting.

Nothing personal Chris, but this is stroke of not-genius. Anyone with a single VA CD in their collection wants to know what artists are in their collection. When you talk to the committee could you please spank the person/s who decided this was useful.

If this is functioning as designed, why does the behavior change when the playlist folder setting is cleared and library is clear/rescanned?
Comment 10 Chris Owens 2006-11-22 16:44:10 UTC
I haven't marked this as 'resolved' yet; I'm still looking at it. The behavior does seem inconsistent. Just for my own notes, the compilation tag does seem to have unintended consequences in particular.
Comment 11 Spies Steven 2007-02-21 11:16:21 UTC
After further investigation for Bug 4516 it appears that this bug is actually the same. The undesired behavior seems to be dependent on only having a playlist saved with one or more songs from a compilation album. If it turns out I am mistaken please open this bug again.
