Description Kevin Pearsall 2006-10-23 11:54:09 UTC
It's a bit disconcerting. Happens during setup networking at a couple of stages during setup:
- when you press right on connect to a wireless network
- when you press right on your encryption options (or on the AP name if encryption is off)

If you have Transporter's analog outputs connected directly to an amplifier, it is extremely loud (90+dB in my case)

Perhaps the audio section could remain powered down until we're pretty sure we're going to be playing some audio?
Comment 2 Richard Titmuss 2006-11-14 02:24:05 UTC
The pre-release firmware did keep the audio section powered down during setup, powering it on when connecting to slimserver. This also did not work so well. The only real solution is to fix the wireless driver so the cpu does not need to be rebooted when the settings change, but that would be a lot of work.

I see this too with firmware 24; it's very loud and very disconcerting. For now I have to turn off my power amp when doing a firmware upgrade or powercycling the transporter.

Sean, can you take a look at this?
Comment 5 Sean Adams 2007-12-28 15:04:37 UTC
The thump is not very loud and is an inherent characteristic of the analog circuitry. If it is loud then it means your system's gains are way out of whack.

Never ever ever run Transporter directly into a power amp unless you are using the internal attenuation jumpers.
