Description James Rome 2006-10-22 11:03:12 UTC
SoftSqueeze has stopped working properly in 6.5 and 6.5.1.
1) The display freezes. None of the buttons work. I have to restart it, or select things using the Web page
2) Now playing reverts to a previous time (see attached pictures). It does this in screensaver mode also.
3) If I look at the softsqueeze console, sometimes the active softsqueeze window is displayed in the console!

This is all aside from many MP3 tracks not playing, the subject of another bug.

I might note that 3.2.1 is much better than 3.2, but that you do not include 3.2.1 in the nightly 6.5.1 builds. You need to do that. 3.2 does not work at all for more than a minute.
Comment 4 Chris Owens 2006-10-30 14:13:06 UTC
Hi James, I can't seem to reproduce this issue. Would it be possible for you to turn on d_source and d_slimproto logging, and attach a log to this bug?
Comment 5 James Rome 2006-10-30 16:41:08 UTC
Logging is on. It happens if I pause it for too long. It if frozen (albeit playing music) right now. There are no log entries from the server.

The softsqueeze log has:

Comment 6 Chris Owens 2006-10-31 09:58:43 UTC
I do notice that sometimes I cannot unpause Softsqueeze by hitting 'pause', but I still am not experiencing the lockups you report, James. What kind of content are you playing? MP3 files or FLAC or some other format from a local server? Internet radio? Some content from Squeeze Network?
Comment 7 James Rome 2006-10-31 11:56:13 UTC
I play mp3 files (I have over 20,000 tracks) and listen to XM and radioio.com a lot. Yes, you are right about the pause button. It often becomes totally unresponsive.

Why isn't 3.2.1 in the nightlies (as of last week)? 3.2.0 which is included exhibited this problem a lot more, so it is probably related to something that was fixed between 3.2.0 and 3.2.1. It is a LOT better now, but still has this behavior eventually.

Are there changelogs somewhere for the nightly builds and for softsqueeze? I have never been able to find them.
Comment 8 KDF 2006-10-31 16:46:39 UTC
you can browse the SVN repo for softsqueeze updates:
http://svn.slimdevices.com/trunk/server/HTML/EN/html/softsqueeze/

there is a set of changelogs for all of slimserver (which includes softsqueeze) in every release, but you can view directly online here:
http://svn.slimdevices.com/*checkout*/trunk/server/Changelog.html?rev=9186
Comment 9 James Rome 2006-10-31 20:20:26 UTC
http://svn.slimdevices.com/*checkout*/trunk/server/Changelog.html?rev=9186
has no entries for 6.5.1 and 7.0 is unavailable.
The softsqueeze logs do not mention 3.2.1 that is available on SourceForge...
Comment 10 KDF 2006-10-31 20:52:39 UTC
You asked for change logs, I gave you change logs. the link, however, doesn't correctly resolve online, apparently, but they ARE in every nightly builds. You can also browse from here:
http://svn.slimdevices.com/trunk/

I never suggested you'd find anything about 3.2.1. That is ONLY on sourceforge. perhaps you should inquire on the forum if you wish to have clarification on why, where and how. There was a note on the forum regarding a bad upload of 3.2 to sourceforge, so 3.2.1 is likely just the corrected upload.

Richard may clarify at some point.

Comment 11 James Rome 2006-11-01 06:29:58 UTC
Well, the 3.2 in the 6.5.1 distribution does not work at all for me. It stops responding an a minute or less. So something must have gotten fixed for 3.2.1.
Comment 12 James Rome 2006-11-02 05:40:59 UTC
This was on the softsqueeze forum, so I am not alone with this complaint:

RE: 3.2.1 stops responding and even jumps back
By: arcticblue (arcticblue) - 2006-11-02 04:30
I have seen this thing happen as well.
Although I'm running 6.5.1 nightly build on Win2003 server.
Comforting to know that there are more out there with this problem.
I have the latest JRE installed.
Comment 13 James Rome 2006-11-14 12:20:39 UTC
It has something to do with focus and the mouse pointer. When it gets into the jump back state, it revives if I click the control window and keep the mouse over it. As soon as I move the mouse away from the SoftSqueeze window, it reverts to the old display.
Comment 14 Richard Titmuss 2006-12-16 15:11:21 UTC
James I am not sure what the problem your seeing is, and I cannot recreate it. Could you try reseting the preferences to see if that helps.

BTW the only changes between 3.2 and 3.2.1 were in the windows installer, the application itself did not change.
Comment 15 James Rome 2006-12-16 20:29:11 UTC
I still see this all the time. And I am not the only one. I understand that its hard to debug when you cannot recreate it. Can you suggest some debugging I can do?
I just reset everything.

Now the controller and the display unit are far apart and I can't get them together if I use my preferred squeexebox2 and the old remote control.. I don't know about you, but I want the smallest footprint possible.

And I am having problems getting anything to play. The SB3 display does not respond to the up/down arrows! Everything is now broken.

It just started to work again. No idea why. But I cannot use the old skins. The sb3 is ugly and takes up too much desk space. Fiddling just killed my slimserver (running on my Linux machine!). Maybe I can live with the Excession skin. Its small anyhow.

While I am yapping, I had to download the version with the jre because it does not work with Java 1.6 which is released.

I'll yell if the now playing still jumps back.

Thanks for your help. SoftSqueeze is great.
Comment 16 James Rome 2006-12-17 05:03:53 UTC
It is still reverting to an old state for me, even after the reset, and with a different skin. Its definitelyt a mouse issue. I move the mouse over it and it revives (fir a while)
Comment 17 James Rome 2006-12-17 07:58:27 UTC
I have the WeatherTime plugin installed. Could that be an issue?
Comment 18 KDF 2007-05-17 16:51:34 UTC
is this issue still ocurring? If so, what happens when the plugin is disabled or not used as any screensaver?
Comment 19 James Rome 2007-05-17 17:13:15 UTC
This has been cured in 3.3 -- mostly. I still see problems with radioio and xm where the now playing screen is frozen. Its now just an occasional annoyance.
Comment 20 Blackketter Dean 2007-10-26 09:24:14 UTC
If this is still happening consistently, please reopen.
Comment 21 James Rome 2007-10-26 10:41:52 UTC
Its fixed
Comment 22 James Rome 2007-10-26 10:42:46 UTC
But often I still do not get the Now Playing screen when, say, I connect to radioio.com. It keeps saying "connecting". But it works OK.
