I'm using Artistsort tag. In both player and web UI when browsing by artist I see the following:

Jackson Browne
David Byrne <Obviously this entry is in the wrong place>
Lindsey Buckingham
Jeff Buckley
Buffalo Springfield
Bush
Kate Bush

Win XP Pro
SlimServer Version: 6.5.1 - 10406 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252

I assume you double checked the artistsort values? might be good to just confirm them here.

Yeah Kevin you assumed correctly, I did double check the Artistsort tag. After your comment I decided to triple check and found out, as you obviously suspected, that I had erroneously tagged Mr. Byrne, as B"r"yne, David and therefore the display showed Mr. Byrne sorted just exactly the way I typed it in the Artistsort tag.

Please accept my apologies for wasting your time. Please remove this bug from the list and save me any further embarrassment.
