Description Jim McAtee 2006-10-19 12:58:02 UTC
Softsqueeze 3.2.1, SlimServer trunk. After some time period of inactivity SlimServer drops the connection with Softsqueeze (or vice versa). The client is no longer seen in the SlimServe web ui, although it's still running. If I'm running the non-Headless version of Softsqueeze I see that the date & time screen saver has some past time displayed and is no longer being updated. I can reestablish the connection by pressing 'Now Playing' on the client, but if I'm running the headless version of Softsqueeze I can only reconnect by killing the process and relaunching Softsqueeze Headless. This particular Softsqueeze client is running on a separate subnet (across a VPN) from the SlimServer.

Are you using the Windows VPN features, or some other kind of VPN software, Jim?
Comment 2 Jim McAtee 2006-10-30 11:05:51 UTC
It's a hardware VPN between firewalls - it should be transparent to the server.
Comment 3 KDF 2007-07-19 00:57:20 UTC
Jim, how about you provide details of the hardware, because obviously what it's doing isn't seamless to the network stream.
Comment 4 Jim McAtee 2007-07-19 11:53:39 UTC
Hardware is ZyWALL 2 Plus at home to ZyWALL 5 at work, with a 'nailed up' VPN tunnel. Sometimes the Softsqueeze -> SlimServer connection will stay active for days, and at other times the connection is lost while the tunnel remains open.

To re-establish the connection I restart Softsqueeze, which I run headless. I don't run the 'headed' version of Softsqueeze, so I don't know whether any other action at the client could re-established the connection.

If I caught what was said in the meeting this may be fixed in a new version of Softsqueeze which is not yet checked in, and Alan will work with Richard to get it into the 7.0 build.
Comment 6 Alan Young 2007-10-23 01:24:29 UTC
No quite. I was sure that I had seen a fix that had already been checked in for this (not by me) but I cannot find it anywhere.

Jim, are you still seeing this? Are you sure that it only happens while the player is idle? I know that some VPNs/firewalls will silently discard idle connections, but the slimproto connection should not be idle, as the server polls the player every few seconds.

Jim?
Comment 8 Jim McAtee 2007-10-26 11:32:22 UTC
Yes. It was only happening when the player was idle. Music streams were never cut off. We recently moved our offices and I've been working mostly from home, so I'm afraid I haven't been using Softsqueeze at all for the last couple of months. Feel free to close the bug if you think it's been fixed.

I think that this should have been fixed by change 9454; the fix to bug 3871. The dates and version numbers do not seem to tie up though. Even so, in the absence of more-recent evidence, I am marking this as fixed.
