I have a library over 20000 songs, and I have never used, and never will use album art. Now I remember an option pre-6.5 where you could disable the album art feature. Would this not be an option to reinstate, perhaps also scanning activities would benefit? This would extend to the html interfaces as well: eg the nokia 770 skin has default album art browse which I do not use. 

As I am running slimserver on rather old hardware (with win2003 os), scanning takes a long time, not to mention problems with scanner.exe simply halting mid-scan which now means for each full scan I actually have to monitor the process (which takes 3/4 hours to complete when not halted in mid air)
