Bugzilla – Bug 4363
A way to tag playlists to get sorted at the beginning or end of the list
Last modified: 2011-11-06 23:22:52 UTC
(reference support tmid 11488) Summary: Placing an underscore or caret at the start of a Playlist filename used to force it to the top of the sorting order in 6.31 and previous. Now in 6.5 it does not. The first non-alpha character is ignored. Email from customer: An undesired change in 6.5... I am writing to report a problem with version 6.5 of SlimServer. I have a relatively good- sized music library that I play through my SqueezeBox. Your software reports: "Your music library contains 925 albums with 14058 songs by 636 artists." This music is divided into 912 playlists. The playlists are listed either by performer or composer, whichever is dominant for the album. For example, classical music, Broadway shows, operas, etc. are listed by composer with separate works each getting their own playlist. Jazz and popular music are listed by performer. Compilations by groups of artists are listed by their album name. These I have always separated from the others by prefixing their playlist title with an underscore (_). This caused these playlists to be grouped together. Additionally, I occasionally create a playlist with 5 or 6 hours of music when I need background for a dinner party and don't want to have to select music during the evening. These playlists are prefixed with right caret (>) so they are easy to find. I worked out this system with Kevin many years ago. Here's my problem: In version 6.5, these prefix characters are ignored when the playlists are alphabetized and displayed on my SqueezeBox. This was not the case in earlier versions. How do I adjust my settings so the system alphabetizes like it used to? Or if this is not possible, how do I tell SlimServer to differentiate between different types of playlists? Thanks.

(In reply to comment #1) > see bug 4020. exact same issue, and it's eventual result. > Actually it isn't. Bug 4020 was in reference to tags, this is in reference to playlist titles. Also, placing something like AA_ in from of a group of plyaylists is a work around but not an elegant solution.
AA_playlistname *is* somewhat less elegant than _playlistname. I realize that from your standpoint, this is a feature that has been removed. However, from our standpoint it is a side effect of reworking sorting to work the 'right way' and improve the way Slimserver sorts. I am marking this as an enhancement request, and marking it for future. This does not mean that we will never get to it. We have meetings periodically, including one in the next couple of weeks, to review bugs targeted for 'Future' and assign them to specific future versions.
Unassigned bugs cannot have a priority.
