Description Matt DeFano 2006-10-11 17:18:11 UTC
I'm using a SLIMP3 connected to SlimServer v6.5.0 on a RedHat Linux PC.

Since upgrading to v6.5.0 (from 6.3.0), I notice that the daemon frequently (but not always) crashes when playing podcasts. Typically, the crash will occur just as I select an attachment to play. More specifically, SLIMP3 says "Checking stream..." for several seconds then reverts to the not-connected message ("Is a server running at...?") before producing any audio. I used the podcasting plugin extensivly on previous versions of the software and never had any problems.

A few other notes:

1. When the SlimServer process hangs up (as defined by the hardware displaying the not connected message), I notice the daemon process is still running on the Linux box. Killing it and restarting seems to solve the problem.

2. The log file contains no data (although no debug options are enabled--not sure if you write general error messages to the log.

3. I'd say the error occurs 50-75% of the time I play a podcast (making this feature pretty unusable).

4. While the crash almost always occurs just before the podcast begins playing, I've seen it once crash just as a podcast finished.

1. you can try the latest nightly of 6.5.1 (many parsing updates that may help)

2. kill the server (sudo /etc/init.d/slimserver stop) and run locally as the slimserver user (/usr/local/slimserver/slimserver.pl) and you'll see any console messages that might be involved if/when it still crashes.

3. if this is still a problem with the nightly builds, please list the podcast in question.

Can't easily reproduce this. The info KDF asked for would be great.

Using the nightly build seems to have solved the problem (or greatly improved it, at least). SlimServer hasn't crashed in several days. Thanks for your help.

This bug is being closed since it was resolved for a version which is now released! Please download the new version of SqueezeCenter (formerly SlimServer) at http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html

If you are still seeing this bug, please re-open it and we will consider it for a future release.
