Description Ceejay 2006-10-04 11:31:16 UTC
... I'm sure this behaviour is intentional (hence this is an enhancement request) but I'd like it changed.

At present (testing on 6.5.1 nightly) the "REMOTE BUTTON FUNCTIONS" section of the Player Settings / Remote page only appears if there is a .map file other than the default in the server/IR directory. I can see the logic of that - why offer the user an option to change something if there isn't an option to change it to!

However this means that if you recall (as I did last night) that there is a function somewhere to specify a custom .map file but you're not quite sure where it goes, you are completely stuck! There is no hint anywhere in the settings pages that such an option might exist.

This is a bit like completely removing a menu item from a pull-down menu when its invalid - more common practice is to grey it out, showing you where it would be (so you don't waste time looking for it) but letting you know you can't use it right now.

SO... what I'd like, please, is for the REMOTE BUTTON FUNCTIONS section of the settings page to be there all the time. The easy fix would be simply to disable the logic that is turning it off, and add a bit to the text that says something like "To be able to select an option other than the standard map, there must be a .map file in the server/IR folder."

A slightly more sophisticated fix would be to change the text and to remove or disable the drop-down selection box, but that might be an unnecessary complication.

BTW - are there any more of these? i.e. useful options that the user never finds out about because they are always hidden and he never gets given the magic clue to turn them on?

Thanks
Ceejay

Rather than hiding the, a better user interface might disable the select box when there's just one selection.

Unassigned bugs cannot have a priority.
