Bugzilla – Bug 4283
"browse artists" view is missing VA artists
Last modified: 2008-12-18 11:11:39 UTC
My server behavior is set to display all songs by artist for compilations, but artists that appear only on compilations are missing from the artists browse list. This has been true since upgrading to 6.5.0 and is still happening in the nightly builds, despite my clearing & rescanning the library every time. Example: artist "strawberry alarm clock" appears on VA compilation album "nuggets". When browsing by artists, S.A.C. is not listed. I can browse to them via the music folder/various artists/nuggets, but not by artist. Another quirk, probably related: in the Browse Artist list, there is an artist called "various artists". If I click on the link, it opens the view of my entire collection, as if I was browsing by album - every album is there, whether or not it is a compilation. Then, if I click on the link of any particular album, it opens a screen saying "0 songs by 0 artists from 0 albums". On my home page, it tells me I have 750 artists in my library. Back in the days of 6.3, there were 1200 artists. My files are WMA lossless. They are tagged correctly as being part of a compilation, with the Album Artist listed as "vrious artists", and the actual performing artist named in the Artist tag. Please advise
seems related to bug 4252
possibly also 4016
If they were tagged as a compilation, this should be working. Can you upload one of the files in question? Thanks
Created attachment 1625 [details] compilation file not appearing in Browse Artists
Fixed in change 10238 Which will be in the 2006-09-07 nightly. You'll need to wipe & rescan.
I presume you meant October 7 build, not September? Anyway, I've uninstalled/reinstalled to today's build: Version: 6.5.1 - 10207 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252 Did a full rescan of library. Same problem exists exactly as originally described; no difference.
Subject: Re: "browse artists" view is missing VA artists It should be around revision 10260 - not as far down as what you have. Again, the fix is in 10238, so it needs to be a version later than that.
Just upgraded to the latest nightly, and I got all my library back. Way to go - you fixed it. Nice work!
