Bugzilla – Bug 4220
please produce PowerPC Debian package again
Last modified: 2006-10-10 10:54:54 UTC
Setting "RPM" as the component for this bug because you don't have a "Deb Package" component. I hope this finds the right person. When SlimServer 6.5 was in beta, PowerPC debs were provided at debian.slimdevices.com. Now that it's out of beta, the PowerPC debs have gone. This is doubly sad for me because the last version I installed seems to be a bit flaky. I run Ubuntu on PowerPC, and would really appreciate it if you could get the PowerPC builds happening again.
Dan, just to clarify, was the PowerPC debian package removed on purpose?
We can't really continue to produce packages for each architecture. It's not maintainable in the long term, as we don't have a PPC Debian box, and have no plans to.
Hmm . . . I just had a deeper look, and it seems that all of your packages are architecture "all", with the exception of libyaml-syck-perl-0.67, which is in Debian unstable now. I was able to install the package at http://debian.slimdevices.com/pool/main/s/slimserver/slimserver_6.5.0_all.deb with no problems. How about providing a deb-src repository? That would be a way around the issue which would not make it look like you were supporting PowerPC, while making life easier for people on even more obscure architectures as well.
We'll bear this in mind for the future, but I'm closing it for now so it doesn't interfere with current releases.
