Bugzilla – Bug 4130
art thumbnail is gone after audio tags are altered
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:15:23 UTC
Using SlimServer Version: SlimServer Version: 6.5b3 - 9739 - Windows Server 2003 - EN - cp1251 Perl Version: 5.8.7 MSWin32-x86-multi-thread MySQL Version: 5.0.22-community-nt If I go and alter tags in an album that is already in the database (genre tag, for example), then the album thumbnail dissapears from gallery view mode. The full size art is OK. The thumnail is not restored after automatic rescan too (rescan music library plugin is on; set for rescan new and changed music)
Is the thumbnail embedded in the audio file, or is it a separate file? Could you attach the relevant files? Thanks
Created attachment 1551 [details] a cover file from the album folder I don't really know what to attach. The artworks is a separate 300x300 jpg file inside the album folder. I have tried this on several albums, with the same results. My thumbnails are set to be 150x150; there is no separate thumb file. Just in case, I have attached the cover.jpg.
is the automatic rescan set for "clear and rescan"? After altering the tags, are you using browse music folder to get teh updates into the db?
I mentioned that: the automatic rescan is set to "look for new and changed music"; it's not clear and rescan. After the tags are altered, I navigate into the album from the New Music page (just because this specific album was new). Not through the browse folders, but through database browse options.
a new and changed rescan probably won't fix artwork, as it needs a FULL list of albums. to add changes, browsing through the Music Folder option is the current feature. going into new music only looks at the current databaase info, without any checks. I think you'll find better results if you browse the musicm folder to the changes, or set an automaitc rescan that is set for clear and rescan. we're working on better options, but artwork just doesn't fit into the 'easy' slot, I'm afraid.
I didn't get this completely, I'm afraid. Is what you are saying, that after some tags are updated on album tracks, what I have to do next is to go to browse folders and enter the album directory? Will this enable a correct art thumbnail display in gallery mode? Maybe I wasn't clear enough in the problem. Initially, everything works fine - the album is in the database, all the tags are OK, album art is displayed, [b]including the gallery mode thumbnail[/b]. Then I go and change the tags. On next scheduled rescan the tags are picked up, buth the album art is wiped out and is not displayed anymore. Why not leave it intact?
The small artwork is only collected during a "clear library" rescan, not a "look for new and changed" scan. There may be ways to change this in future, but this is how it works now.
I need to reproduce this, unfortunately it's not going to happen in the next few hours.
I was going to recreate this myself again, to attach an exact sequence of events. However, it does not happen to me anymore! I think, the change from b2 to b3 have made the difference.
Correction: the problem still exists (6.5.0 release version): VERSION INFO SlimServer Version: 6.5.0 - 9916 - Windows Server 2003 - EN - cp1251 Server IP address: 192.168.11.6 Perl Version: 5.8.7 MSWin32-x86-multi-thread MySQL Version: 5.0.22-community-nt The exact sequense of events is illustrated in attachments below
Created attachment 1586 [details] thumb OK for album in gallery mode Initially, thumb is shown OK for Memoirs album by Paul Bley (top line, second album)
Created attachment 1587 [details] album tracks I click on the thumbnail...
Created attachment 1588 [details] track 1 info (note genre line) ...and go into track 1 details. Please note it has 2 genres:Jazz and Piano
Created attachment 1589 [details] gallery mode again after genre tag change; no browser reload Now I went and changed genre tags from Jazz & Piano to Jazz. Then I click again on "New Music". Thumb is still in place
Created attachment 1590 [details] CTRL-F5 Now I reloaded browser cache by pressing CTRL-F5; thumb still in place
Created attachment 1591 [details] track info; genre change detected Now I clicked on album art thumb and went into track 1 details. Genre shows just Jazz now; change is detected
Created attachment 1592 [details] browser cache cleared; thumnail is gone! Next I went again to New music, gallery mode and reloaded the page with CTRL-F5. The thumbnail is gone!
And BTW, others are also noticing that: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27810
Ross, can you look at Yuly's text and the message board thread and try to determine the quickest, most reliable way to reproduce this?
Yuly - I'm unable to reproduce this using the steps you've given. Could you attach a zip file of 2 or 3 tracks from that album, and the cover image itself? Thanks
What's the size limit for attachements? couple of tracks equals to 20-30Mbytes...
Subject: Re: art thumbnail is gone after audio tags are altered Size limit should be unlimited. You can also FTP the files to ftp://slimdevices.com/incoming/
Yuly - any update here? Thanks
Sorry for the delay. Three files have been uploaded to the ftp: 4130_orig_tags.rar 4130_mod_tags.rar cover.hpg Each archive contains 2 tracks; before and after genre tag editing.
I can verify this is happening in 7.0, Default skin, as well. You only need to change the mtime on the audio files and the gallery thumbnail will disappear - it's not the tag change per se that causes this. It's not apparent in Fishbone, with the black background, but the missing artwork image that appears is the .jpg with the black background, not the transparent .png image that normally appears when an album has no artwork.
I'm unable to reproduce this with current trunk or 6.5.1
Using 6.5.1 I can't reproduce it either.
