Using SlimServer Version:
SlimServer Version: 6.5b3 - 9739 - Windows Server 2003 - EN - cp1251
Perl Version: 5.8.7 MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
MySQL Version: 5.0.22-community-nt

If I go and alter tags in an album that is already in the database (genre tag, for example), then the album thumbnail dissapears from gallery view mode. The full size art is OK.

The thumnail is not restored after automatic rescan too (rescan music library plugin is on; set for rescan new and changed music)
Comment 1 Dan Sully 2006-09-17 14:53:19 UTC
Is the thumbnail embedded in the audio file, or is it a separate file?

Could you attach the relevant files?

Thanks

a cover file from the album folder

I don't really know what to attach. The artworks is a separate 300x300 jpg file inside the album folder. I have tried this on several albums, with the same results. My thumbnails are set to be 150x150; there is no separate thumb file.
Just in case, I have attached the cover.jpg.
Comment 3 KDF 2006-09-18 16:25:03 UTC
is the automatic rescan set for "clear and rescan"?
After altering the tags, are you using browse music folder to get teh updates into the db?

Comment 4 Yuly Milner 2006-09-19 00:39:36 UTC
I mentioned that: the automatic rescan is set to "look for new and changed music"; it's not clear and rescan.
After the tags are altered, I navigate into the album from the New Music page (just because this specific album was new). Not through the browse folders, but through database browse options.
Comment 5 KDF 2006-09-19 00:45:25 UTC
a new and changed rescan probably won't fix artwork, as it needs a FULL list of albums.

to add changes, browsing through the Music Folder option is the current feature.

going into new music only looks at the current databaase info, without any checks.

I think you'll find better results if you browse the musicm folder to the changes, or set an automaitc rescan that is set for clear and rescan. we're working on better options, but artwork just doesn't fit into the 'easy' slot, I'm afraid.

Comment 6 Yuly Milner 2006-09-19 03:56:11 UTC
I didn't get this completely, I'm afraid.
Is what you are saying, that after some tags are updated on album tracks, what I have to do next is to go to browse folders and enter the album directory? Will this enable a correct art thumbnail display in gallery mode?
Maybe I wasn't clear enough in the problem. Initially, everything works fine - the album is in the database, all the tags are OK, album art is displayed, including the gallery mode thumbnail.
Then I go and change the tags. On next scheduled rescan the tags are picked up, buth the album art is wiped out and is not displayed anymore. Why not leave it intact?
Comment 7 KDF 2006-09-19 08:26:21 UTC
The small artwork is only collected during a "clear library" rescan, not a "look for new and changed" scan.
There may be ways to change this in future, but this is how it works now.

I need to reproduce this, unfortunately it's not going to happen in the next few hours.
Comment 9 Yuly Milner 2006-09-20 00:21:56 UTC
I was going to recreate this myself again, to attach an exact sequence of events. However, it does not happen to me anymore! I think, the change from b2 to b3 have made the difference.
Comment 10 Yuly Milner 2006-09-25 00:32:19 UTC
Correction: the problem still exists (6.5.0 release version):

And BTW, others are also noticing that:

Comment 19 Chris Owens 2006-09-25 10:23:21 UTC
Ross, can you look at Yuly's text and the message board thread and try to determine the quickest, most reliable way to reproduce this?
Comment 20 Dan Sully 2006-09-28 10:49:39 UTC
Yuly - I'm unable to reproduce this using the steps you've given.

Could you attach a zip file of 2 or 3 tracks from that album, and the cover image itself?

Thanks
Comment 21 Yuly Milner 2006-09-29 03:15:08 UTC
What's the size limit for attachements? couple of tracks equals to 20-30Mbytes...
Comment 22 Dan Sully 2006-09-29 07:38:42 UTC
Subject: Re: art thumbnail is gone after audio tags are altered

Size limit should be unlimited.

You can also FTP the files to ftp://slimdevices.com/incoming/

Comment 23 Dan Sully 2006-10-10 14:34:24 UTC
Yuly - any update here?

Thanks
Comment 24 Yuly Milner 2006-10-11 06:48:06 UTC
Sorry for the delay.

Three files have been uploaded to the ftp:
4130_orig_tags.rar
4130_mod_tags.rar
cover.hpg

Each archive contains 2 tracks; before and after genre tag editing.
Comment 25 Jim McAtee 2006-11-03 14:07:29 UTC
I can verify this is happening in 7.0, Default skin, as well. You only need to change the mtime on the audio files and the gallery thumbnail will disappear - it's not the tag change per se that causes this. It's not apparent in Fishbone, with the black background, but the missing artwork image that appears is the .jpg with the black background, not the transparent .png image that normally appears when an album has no artwork.
Comment 26 Dan Sully 2007-01-08 17:25:13 UTC
I'm unable to reproduce this with current trunk or 6.5.1
Comment 27 Jim McAtee 2007-01-08 17:40:08 UTC
Using 6.5.1 I can't reproduce it either.
