Bugzilla – Bug 408
5.2.0/1 rpm install fails on useradd error
Last modified: 2008-12-18 11:51:14 UTC
installation of 5.2.0 rpm or the 2004-06-26 nightly rpm of 5.2.1 aborts with a useradd error. this bug it not present in 5.1.5 or earlier. repeated on both a red hat 8 and two red hat 9 systems. tested in and out of an nis domain. after aborting, a slimdevices group *is* present in /etc/group, but no user has been created. below is the shell output of the install procedure. rpm -ihv slimserver-2004_06_26-1.noarch.rpm Preparing... ########################################### [100%] usage: useradd [-u uid [-o]] [-g group] [-G group,...] [-d home] [-s shell] [-c comment] [-m [-k template]] [-f inactive] [-e expire ] [-p passwd] [-M] [-n] [-r] name useradd -D [-g group] [-b base] [-s shell] [-f inactive] [-e expire ] error: %pre(slimserver-2004_06_26-1) scriptlet failed, exit status 2 error: install: %pre scriptlet failed (2), skipping slimserver-2004_06_26-1
i'm going to try downloading all the nightlies to determine at which version the bug cropped up.
ah ha! -- 2004-06-23 installs fine, 2004-06-24 fails with the useradd syntax error.
fixed for latest nightly. Also updated the 5.2.0 rpms available for download from www.slimdevices.com
There are 536 bugs in the database with targets of '---' that were fixed prior to new year 2006. I am setting them to targets of 6.2.1 to keep them from showing up in my queries.
Routine bug db maintenance; removing old versions which cause confusion. I apologize for the inconvenience.
