Description smc2911 2006-09-08 14:11:45 UTC
Setting the screensave to use while playing to Analog VU causes the Squeezebox to immediately reboot, with no logs generated by Slimserver. The problem is consistently reproducible.

Running FW 61 on
SlimServer Version: 6.5b1 - 9471 - Debian - EN - utf8
Perl Version: 5.8.8 x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi
MySQL Version: 5.0.22-Debian_0ubuntu6.06.2-log

On one occasion after testing this problem, all music refused to play (the song name would appear, but the progress meter would not move and no sound was heard). This was fixed with a factory reset. This did not appear to occur consistently.

I'm not seeing this symptom. Are you selecting the VU meter screensaver from the SB3 UI or from the web UI? Does it seem to make a difference?

Are you playing music at the time? What format?
Comment 2 smc2911 2006-09-08 17:14:59 UTC
I was selecting it from the Web UI and, yes, it was while music was playing.

But, now, I've upgraded to
SlimServer Version: 6.5b1 - 9507 - Debian - EN - utf8
Perl Version: 5.8.8 x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi
MySQL Version: 5.0.22-Debian_0ubuntu6.06.2-log
Firmware Version: 62
and all is well again!

I am, however, seeing a strange smearing on the VU meter. See pic at http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=134747&post=8

Can you please let me know what format music you are playing, and if you have multiple formats to try does it happen with all of them?

Also if possible can you revert to firmware 59 and let me know if this version works correctly.

Thanks,
Richard

I was playing flac (I have a few mp3s too, but not many). I use the deb package, and I didn't keep a copy of the FW61 package, so I can't roll back to that to try again while an mp3 is playing. If someone has a copy of the relevant deb package I can try it. I did, however, happen to have an older copy saved, which I've just rolled back to and it's got FW59! Strangely, however, I can't properly test it as my attempts to go to player settings via the WebUI are constantly rewarded with "404 Not Found: setup.html. Try adding page=SERVER_SETTINGS." I'd never seen this before, but remembered seeing a reference to it on the forums: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27035&highlight=SERVER_SETTINGS. Maybe this is a result of rolling back and still having some newer HTML floating around, but I'm a little bit nervous about doing a completely clean install (not sure what I might lose...). Anyway, although it's not a true like for like test, I have tried setting the Analog VU screen setting using the remote (never actually tried this on FW61). While it doesn't reboot the SB, there's no analog meter, just a whole lot of static random dots on the screen (actualy a pattern repeated 10 times along the screen). So, I don't know if this is much use to you.

So, just to clarify you get static random dots on the screen with firmware 59?
Comment 7 Richard Titmuss 2006-09-11 06:18:03 UTC
Changing the product to Squeezebox2/v3.

Could confirm that the vumeter does not work with firmware 59. If so then we would like to crossship you a replacement player. No one else has reported this problem and we cannot recreate it here. It is possible that your player has developed a memory fault. Could you please contact support@slimdevices.com and mention this bug.

Thanks, Richard

I just tried is again, and I'm still getting the strange effect on firmware 59. I've put a pic on post #9 of http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=135474. As suggested, I'll drop a line to support. By the way, I'm in Australia, so a swap might take a little while!

I should add that back on FW62, I get an Analog VU meter, but it has odd smears (there's also a pic of that), which could be a memory issue as you suggest.
