Bugzilla – Bug 395
Delete character under cursor when moving backwards
Last modified: 2008-12-18 11:51:06 UTC
It would seem sensible if when you use the left arrow to correct characters, the erroneous characters are deleted. If I've entered BEACTBOY, but then I decide I really wanted to say 'BEACHBOY', I'd left arrow until the cursor was over the T. My next keypresses would replace that T with another character. However, the 'T' remains visible until I press a new key. It would be more intuitive if the T were to vanish and the cursor would be over blank space - as it does when it moves forwards. It would make it easier to edit the text from a distance as the cursor is quite hard to see. The letters it shows on the screen should be the letters it's retaining in the search.
I'm not sure about this. Left arrow is supposed to remove the character that the cursor is selecting, not the cursor to the left. Another way to look at it is that if you press left, you should be able to edit the character in question by pressing up/down or a number button and have the appropriate context (i.e. the character in question) apply to those button presses. Reopen this bug if you feel strongly about this and we can continue to discuss.
The new input mechanism introduced for the search seems much better on this - so I'm happy, thanks.
Routine bug db maintenance; removing old versions which cause confusion. I apologize for the inconvenience.
