so this would have to be implemented in Firmware.  Shall I assign it on to Richard or just let it go for now?

wouldn't this simply require changes to .ir and .map files to link to the required function calls in slimserver?

Yes, but also firmware changes so that it can work when disconnected  
(a feature of the IR digital ins).

This is fixed and will be in firmware TR 81.
