If this involves building a custom dongle for either the IR or RS232 port, that's fine, we can put instructions in the Wiki for it.

I've already added support in the IR code to turn the output on an off permanently, but I did not find a relay that could be used directly. Tried a 1.5VDC and a 3VDC relay, but the max. current is to low for both.

I've used MosFets for this before as they can work with the worst case current from serial or parallel ports. I connect as a low-side switch. Of course, the relay coil still needs an outside power source for the high side.

All new Squeezebox products are likely to be based on the SqueezePlay platform.
We do not plan to implement any further enhancements to the ip3k firmware or
which are targeted specifically at ip3k-based products.
