Description Julius Friede 2004-06-19 16:08:02 UTC
When browsing by album, would it be possible to have the option to display the album and artist name
on the two lines of the player instead of # of total # and the album name? In the case of a compilation
album, the artist line could say "compilation" or "many."

Thanks,
Julius

What do you think, Kevin?
Comment 2 KDF 2004-08-12 09:22:19 UTC
it can be done, much the same as the YEAR display. this time, perhaps as a
player setting. Of course, using it will be a big performance hit just like
showing the year is. I didn't create any new caches in order to not create
larger memory footprints for those who wont ever use the feature.

currently, there is no information that can tie the album to a 'many', 'various'
or 'compilation' without the tag stating such. Best you would get right now, is
the tag info from the first song on the album. Confusing at best if there are
various artists. This might be best left for a task post-SQL when we can tie
META info to the album name.

This would greatly improve "Browse Albums", especially if one has a significant
number of orphan tracks (what the heck is "Seminole Wind"?).

When this gets done, please add it to the web UI.

One more thing - it would be nice to have some way to specify how the name
should appear in the web UI, either "Artist - Album" or "Album - Artist". The
first would be especially nice if it could be used to drive the display order
for "Browse by Artwork"!

I've always stored my LPs/CDs by artist (and by order of release within artist),
not by album title, so this seems like the most natural approach to me. Then if
there were a straightforward way to use artist's last names, when applicable, as
the primary sort field...

This is actually done as far as player UI (as per this bug report) using Michael
Hergers MusicInfo Screensaver.

Presenting this to the web UI as a configurable option would seem to require yet
another InforFormat-type setting. This is a section of code I'd rather not
touch, so I'm bouncing this back to Dean for an architectural decision as to how
an option like this could be handled. other suggestions welcome.

6.0.2 and 6.1 now include an option for show year with albums and show artist
with albums for the web UI. Michael Herger's MusicInfoSCR plugin solves the
initial request. I'm tempted to mark this one as fixed.

Moving bugs that won't be immediately fixed in 6.1 release. Please review and update if this is an error
or if this bug has already been fixed. Thanks.

Routine bug db maintenance; removing old versions which cause confusion. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Comment 10 Chris Owens 2010-05-06 15:54:39 UTC
Dean doesn't work here any more :)

Unassigned bugs cannot have a priority.
