Since 6.3.1 has been out for a month and this is the first reported case, I'm inclined to think this is not a bug, but a support issue.

Are there other devices on your network (other than the machine running Slimserver) you can temporarily disconnect to try to reduce network congestion? Can you please try connecting using an ethernet cable to your router to see if that makes the problem clear up? These are not permanent solutions, but can help indicate where the problem is located.

There are also a number of suggestions at http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?NetworkProblemsSecondGuide

If you would like personal help trying to get your issue fixed, support@slimdevices.com would honestly be your best choice.

I'm not as good at troubleshooting these kinds of issues as our support staff, but I'm willing to give it a try here if you prefer to communicate through this bug.

Thanx for the sugestions. I did some more tweeking and testing and found
out that MP3 and WMA files are playing without a problem. There is a limit
however for MP3 256Kbs. The strange thing is that OGG is causing
stuttering whatever quality I use. Besides FLAC, OGG and WAV, AIFF also
causes stuttering. I will send this message also to Support and hope they
can solve the problem.

By the way: I tried to run SlimServer 6.5b1 last week, but my SB3 was not
able to update the firmware. Everytime it stopped halfway and when trying
again gave the message: "bad state", after which the SB restarted.

Regards,
Jeroen

The bad_state bug was caused by bug 3368, which has since been fixed, if you wish to try 6.5 again.

Another thing you should have a look at: we include a plugin to test your network bandwidth. To use it, use your remote control to go through your SB3 menus to Plugins -> Network Test. In there, you can check to see what bandwidths you are able to get from your server to your Squeezebox.

Jeroen, have you contacted support to try to get this running? Any luck?

Yes. I moved the router closer to the SB3. There is still one thing I do
not understand and that is that I could play MP3 224 kbps with 50% signal
strength but no OGG Vorbis. Now with signal strength 85-90% I can play
upto 192 kbps OGG files but not 256 kbps as with MP3. Does this has to do
with the speed of converting OGG files by the SB3 compared to MP3 files?

Jeroen: I'm going to mark this bug as fixed since it sounds like it's working. If it's not, please get in touch with support for help and if it's a reproducible in version 6.5 bug, we can open a new one.
