Description Jordan Hirsch 2006-08-08 07:04:37 UTC
Just did a clean install of SlimServer Version: 6.3.1 - 8468 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252. Changed to the "Fishbone" skin (which I have used previously with no problems). In Firefox 1.5.0.6, IE 6.5, and IE 7.0 beta, the web interface shows up as though it had no stylesheet attached. In Firefox I can temporarily fix this by using the Web Developer's Toolbar plugin to disable & re-enable styles, which will cause the interface to display properly until one of the frames refreshes. I have tried clearing out my browser cache, restarting my browser, clearing out the Cache folder under the SlimServer installation directory on my hard drive - nothing has helped.

please try 6.5 builds. no more work is being done on 6.3.x

I haven't seen this issue with Fishbone, Jordan, and I think if it was an obvious bug we would have had more reports by now. However it is certainly odd that it happens with all your browsers.

Have you posted to our forums to see if anyone else has seen this symptom?

Have you had previous Slimserver installations on this system that worked okay?

Like KDF, I would be interested to see if this happens with 6.5, if you are interested in trying that. If you are a new user, however, let's just try to get you up and running! I also may want to have someone from our support team contact you.

Chris,

Sorry if I overestimated the severity of the bug when I called it "major," I guess I was just a little frustrated at the moment and it felt major to me. Here's the weird thing: I had been using 6.5b1 for months with no problem. Over the weekend, I upgraded to the latest nightly and got everything working fine, except that my SB firmware updates kept failing. I emailed support about it (after finding a bug mentioning my problem where the bug crew had recommended contacting support directly) and they recommended that I try 6.3. So I downgraded to 6.3.1 which fixed my firmware update problem, but now I have this Fishbone problem. So now I'm not sure what to do. I'm happy with 6.3.1, I don't think there's anything I need from 6.5b1 that I don't have, I just wish my skin would work. Is there anythihng else I could try on my machine? Is there a way to maybe just reinstall the skin and not the whole SlimServer? I'm hesitant to go back up to 6.5 since I had that firmware installation problem.

Thanks for your help with this, I appreciate it.

oddly, I'm not surprised to find out that a downgrade was involved at some point. The downgrade path isn't smooth at this point. Have you tried clearing any cookies related to the slimserver url? Clear all cookies if you don't mind losing them all. The Fishbone skin has two alternate style that are applied via javacript, so the main style is alos affected. The references are different between 6.5 and 6.3.x so that could be involved.

BTW the firmware problem is bug 3881, and hopefully we will have a fix for that very quickly!

Chris,

Thanks for the udpate - looks like the firmware bug is now resolved as of a few minutes ago. Maybe I will go back up to 6.5 and see if that fixes everything. Thanks!

KDF - I deleted all cookies and still have the same problem.

Update: I went into Help->Fishbone Style Settings in the web interface and selected the "grey" interface and then refreshed. It now looks fine (this was in Firefox). I tried it in IE and it worked there also. I'm still curious as to why the default is having problems, but this is better.
Comment 8 KDF 2006-08-10 13:57:01 UTC
Try setting back to default and see if that keeps it stuck.

Let me know if there are any problems with 6.5
Comment 9 Jordan Hirsch 2006-08-10 13:58:45 UTC
I can't test setting it back to default in 6.3 at the moment, as I'm now running 3.5 - which does not have this problem at all. Is it helpful if I go back to 6.3 and test this?
Comment 10 Jordan Hirsch 2006-08-10 14:01:41 UTC
I meant "6.5" in my last comment, not "3.5."
Comment 11 KDF 2006-08-10 14:11:56 UTC
6.3 was only for interest sake. If you have no problem with 6.5 that is more important. We are only fixing 6.5 at this point.
Comment 12 Jordan Hirsch 2006-08-10 14:13:56 UTC
In that case, I guess I'll mark this as fixed, since I have had no problems with this issue in 6.5. Thanks.
