Description Steve Ayres 2006-08-05 19:04:36 UTC
When opening slimserver, it appears to grab whatever internet explorer window it wants. It would be most helpful (read less effing annoying) if it opened a new explorer window instead of navigating away from an already open window that's in use! It would also be helpful if there was an easy way to see the version of slimserver running - as a newbie I can't see any way to find out apart from looking at the name of the file I installed!

I believe that is a setting in your internet options.

This may be the IE setting you want. If it's too annoying, I'd recommend Firefox where new links can be set to open in a new tab. I assume IE7 has a similar feature.

Also, the current SlimServer version is displayed at the bottom of the Server Settings page.

Subject: RE: Slimserver and internet explorer windows

Thanks for the email. As for using Firefox, the question I have is, why?
Internet Explorer is bundled in Windows and works just fine for me! People
may complain about IE and the existence of Firefox may spur Microsoft to
improve it, but I see no point in installing another program that does
exactly what IE does. As for tabbed window browsing, I'm one person that
hates it.

Now, no other application I have does what slimserver does - grabbing an
apparently random IE window. It doesn't grab the window that's currently in
use, I tried opening a new IE window then immediately going to slimserver.

I've looked at all the internet explorer settings. I've even turned off
pop-up blocking, and it makes no difference. I'll try installing slimserver
on a brand new windows XP install and see what happens then.

Thanks for the slimserver settings info, that was difficult to find.
