Bugzilla – Bug 3804
Mandriva RPM install ignores /etc/sysconfig/slimserver owner
Last modified: 2011-03-16 04:19:55 UTC
Just installed 6.5b1 - 8573 (July 22 nightly) on my Mandriva 10.1 system that has been running assorted SlimServer versions for over a year. The RPM succeeds, but the slimserver will not start. The error log shows mkdir /root/Cache: Permission denied at /usr/local/slimserver/Slim/Utils/Prefs.pm line 440 mkdir /home/slimserver: Permission denied at /usr/local/slimserver/Slim/Utils/Prefs.pm line 44 and a little investigation shows that the owner/permissions are not right on /usr/local/slimserver It is set to root:root, rather than slimserver:slimserver seems related to bug/issue: 3358
Pat - I've fixed bug 3358 Can you see if this is still an issue? Will be in the July 24th nightly. Thanks
Pat - I'm marking this as fixed, as I believe my recent changes to the RPM have done so. Please reopen if you don't feel the same. Thanks

Sorry, my day job got in the way of checking this. I was going to try it right now, and downloaded the nightly from Sept 4, but there is no RPM version. Makes it hard to test the RPM setup. Let me know when you get another and I'll try it. Thanks Pat
The most recent 6.5 that I tried does not resolve this. Same basic result, the RPM installation works, but the SlimServer will not start. I installed SlimServer_6.5_v2006-09-05.noarch.rpm on my Mandriva 10.1 Community edition.
I tried the recent 6.5 and it installed cleanly and works fine. 6.5b3 - 9697 - Linux - EN - iso-8859-1 Not clear if this is fixed in the RPM, or just because I fixed it manually before. Agree with pushing it off until 6.5.1. Since Mandriva is about to release their 2007 version, it might make sense for me to install that OS, and try a clean RPM from whatever is state of the art then. We could then know if it is broken. And I'd have a clean Mandriva to test with and maybe even fix/create a Mandriva 2007 RPM. ( I haven't looked at rolling an RPM, but it can't be all that bad :-)
Ok, please let me know.
Pat, any update here? I'd like to get the RPM issues cleared up. Thanks
Closing for now, as it appears to be working. Please reopen if you see it again. Thanks Pat
