Bugzilla – Bug 3788
Alarm settings don't allow the selection of an Itunes Playlist
Last modified: 2008-09-15 14:39:24 UTC
In 6.5, I have lost the ability to select iTunes Playlists - only one playlist shows in the selection and even if I select this, the Squeezebox resolutley carries on playing the last selected album. What I would like to have (and *think* I had in 6.2) is the ability to select any one of my iTunes Playlists to wake up to.
I do see your issue with iTunes playlists not actually playing as part of an alarm. I don't see the problem with iTunes playlists not showing up. Please check to make sure they still work in iTunes, and that the 'Use iTunes' box is checked in Server Settings. Also, does it make a difference if the iTunes application is open or closed? Are you perhaps running iTunes and Slimserver as different users? I'm just trying to think of reasons why Slimserver wouldn't be able to see or read your iTunes playlists. When I set one of my iTunes playlists for use by my alarm, the current playlist never falters. When I go back to the Alarms page to make sure I had set it correctly, the time of the alarm has been reset to 12:00 AM. However, I checked that page several times in disbelief before the alarm was set to go off, and each time it showed the set alarm time set correctly. I tested this on a mac and a PC, and mysteriously this problem only affects the mac!
Playlists are still working in iTunes and I have also created a new playlist in iTunes to see if thast works (it does). I just did a rescan of playlists in SlimServer - the net result was a loss of ALL playlists! I' have also rescanned my entire library and although artists, albums, genres and songs have come across, playlists have not. It therefore seems as though the problems are not - as you have predicted - that Slimserver won't play the playlists but instead that Playlists aren't being read when the library is scanned. Do you want to close this bug report and start a new one on the Playlist issue? Playlists from iTunes show up fine for me on OS X Please make sure you are using the latest 6.5 nightly build. Thanks.
Dan - thanks for looking into this for me. Things have just got a whole lot stranger - I just downloaded the latest nightly and ran it and now, on the web interface, playlists don't show at all. On the players, there is a place marker for playlists under browse but this is empty. I have done a full library rescan and have also checked that I have 'Use iTunes' selected in the main pane of Server settings. I have also checked the iTunes pane of server settings to ensure that I haven't hard-wired any spurious path in there. My Mac Mini runs both SlimServer and iTunes. My music is held on an external Buffalo Linkstation USB drive. At the bottom of my SlimServer screen, the following shows: SlimServer Version: 6.5b1 - 8547 - Mac OS X 10.4.7 (8J135) - EN - utf8. Let me know if there's anything else you need from me. I gave this a try myself as well, latest 6.5 build. Selecting the iTunes 90's Music playlist as an example, works fine when the alarm triggers. Win2k, ActivePerl 5.8.7
Ross, could you look at reproducing this on your mac, please?
Fixed in change 9242 Thanks Jon!
Ross, never mind. :)
This is an excellent situation: Dan travels to the UK, solves my problem without any practical help from me and then thanks me for it! The best news is that all works again - thanks everyone (but especially Dan) for all your hard work.
