I'm seeing more than one instance of many contributors in my database and the artist count is much higher than with pre-merge 6.5.  The difference seems to be due to different/missing ARTISTSORT tags.  Here's an example that leads to two Bill Frisells in the contributors table.

ALBUM=East/West
ARTIST=Bill Frisell
ARTISTSORT=Frisell, Bill

ALBUM=The Elephant Sleeps But Still Remembers
ARTIST=Bill Frisell
ARTIST=Jack DeJohnette

Gives:

id     name             namesort         namesearch

754    Bill Frisell     FRISELL BILL     BILL FRISELL

This may somehow be related to bug 3069.
