These changes to the alphapagebar code are crashing any of the browse modes.  Backing off to 8453 clears the errors.

slimserver log

Check that.  It crashes at the artist/albumlist or at the year/albumlist level.  Descending Browse Albums doesn't crash.  See the attached log.

reverted the part of change 8454 that was causing the crash at change 8456.
no longer a blocker, but leaving open for review since some non-crashing version of change 8454 will be needed at some point.
