Description jim honsberger 2006-07-06 18:32:32 UTC
i use a pda to change up music playing on the squeezeboxes. i just added rhapsody on a trial basis.when i go to the rhapsody interface on slim server software and go to browse artists in rhapsody i have more than one page according
to my pda. page 1 will display and i can tap play and that artist will play fine. if i attempt to go to page 2 the pda
will say "page not found" and within 30 seconds the slim server software will stop ,my squeezeboxes will go blank
as the slim server software is not on. i then have to go to the computer that has my music and slim server and restart
the slim server software.i have duplicated this problem every time i try to.

if i use a laptop when doing the same process above i have no problems at all and i can change the music on rhapsody without any issues.so the problem resides in using a pda with slimserver and rhapsody.

Which skin are you using on your PDA?

Can you look in the event log for the error that caused SlimServer to crash?
Comment 2 Andy Grundman 2006-07-07 05:36:36 UTC
Jim emailed me to say he's using the Handheld skin.
Comment 3 KDF 2006-07-07 14:43:04 UTC
report so far would seem to indicate something unfriendly in the pagebar links. Handheld does have a larger than normal discrete html codeset, so it could be that something was missed in the pagebar code that didn't get passed on to the handheld templates. Without the crash message, I can't offer much more. I'm not able to attempt any testing to reproduce on my setup.
Comment 4 Andy Grundman 2006-07-07 14:45:51 UTC
I've been emailing with Jim. Both he and I have no problems using the Handheld skin in a normal web browser. The problem only occurs on his PDA browser. I'm thinking the page link is being truncated by the browser causing a crash. I've asked him to compare the page link on his PDA to one on a normal browser. Also gave him instructions on running SlimServer from the command line to see the crash error.

yes i have now tried on both a hewlett packard and dell axim pda and both
will crash slim server when you try to go to a second or third page on rhapsody;
that is when your searching radio stations, artists, albums, etc

this is not a good situation when your developing relationships, partnerships with
other companies.Particularly early on with rhapsody,a sizable company with clout.you guys should borrow a pda,any pda and you try to search radio stations on rhapsody and you will see what i mean.

i dont know how many people use pda's as a remote control but as of today i cannot use my pda to navigate through your squeezenetwork(another bug) nor
rhapsody.

For what its worth, I was unable to reproduce this bug exactly with the Nokia 770. Although I did stumble on something else. I noticed that all works fine with the default skin, exactly as it should as far as I noticed. However with the handheld skin I could navigate through any menu, and slim server wouldn't stop, or do the behavior Jim describes. BUT I did noticed that if you hit play, or add to playlist, you get a 403 forbidden error, and of course the play/add to playlist function doesn't work.

Jim, could you try not using the handheld skin, just to help us narrow this down a bit?

Also I will try with our Axim, that is if we can get it to work...
Comment 7 KDF 2006-07-10 16:19:45 UTC
Jim, could you please try running command line as Andy instructed you? It would be far more helpful to have that information, and the compared links so that everyone knows which section of code is involved.
Comment 8 Andy Grundman 2006-07-13 13:16:59 UTC
Fixed! The pagebar hierarchy param was not being URI-escaped so the PDA browser couldn't handle it.

Jim, please test tomorrow with tonight's nightly build.

There was a temporary problem with the builds. The .exe should be available for download now.
