I do have an album named B*witched by B*witched. 

Choosing on the slimp3 or on a squeezebox:  Browse Artists > B*witched >
B*witched etc. This never enters the album, and it does not allow going back
(with left) any more. Returning to now playing area still works. 

I guess the interpretation of the star as wildcard is irritating the SlimServer.

looks like you've triggered bug 55, which isn't as specific, but simply says *
in filenames or tags cause funny things.
