Description Chris Owens 2006-06-28 12:54:56 UTC
In researching bug 2095, I ran across this bug. On Windows platforms ONLY, the files attached to bug 2095 do not play correctly. The first 'plays' only silence. The second 'plays' white noise.

The peculiarity of these files is: they were not ripped directly from a CD. They started life as .wav files, which I imported in to iTunes, and converted there to ALAC. Bizarrely, files ripped directly from a CD to ALAC work fine!

In addition, these files play fine from within iTunes, and they also play fine using Slimserver and an SB3 on a mac.

So, there seems to be some issue perhaps with mov123.exe that only affects files generated in this manner on PC platforms.

Are you using the latest version of quicktime?
Comment 2 Chris Owens 2006-06-28 16:39:42 UTC
6.0.4 seems to be the latest for Windows anyway.

Nope - should be a 7.x version.

Ping.

ALAC is now done using 'alac'

Should be fixed with change 9327.
Comment 7 Chris Owens 2006-09-08 12:30:51 UTC
Negative. The files still don't play correctly.

I basically don't care, since the files are just test files (although presumably valid ones) that I hacked into existence.

The only question is whether some customer or customers out there have files with the same problem. And I have to say, as far as I'm concerned, if they do, we'll fix it then.
