Description Chris Owens 2006-06-26 09:58:35 UTC
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=117279&postcount=5

User posting to the forums tries to uninstall 6.5 and install 6.3, but leftovers from the 6.5 installation cause ugly web usability issues.

Leaving this assigned to me to reproduce and consider how an uninstaller should work.
Comment 1 Jim McAtee 2006-06-27 23:25:24 UTC
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the user in the forum thread was running on OS X.
Comment 2 Chris Owens 2006-06-28 11:32:06 UTC
Thank you Jim.

Dean, is it a bit unusual to not have any way to uninstall a piece of software on the mac? Or is there something I'm missing?
Comment 3 Chris Owens 2006-06-28 11:32:54 UTC
This isn't really a problem on other OSes due to evident, traditional ways of uninstalling.
Comment 4 KDF 2006-06-28 11:51:12 UTC
It always seemed to me that dragging the icon to the trash basically does the uninstall for OSX. However, that's mainly for apps. No idea if it is the same idea for preference panes. I'm not sure preferencePanes were really designed to be uninstalled.
Comment 5 Blackketter Dean 2006-07-01 21:36:15 UTC
You can drag the icon from the Library -> PreferencePanes folder to the trash, or right-click on the icon in the System Preferences. AFAIK, this is the standard way to uninstall Preference Panes on the mac.

HOWEVER, the root problem here is that up/downgrading between 6.3 & 6.5 is problematic. Let's address that.

Dean and Dan say that we should blow away the template cache on an automatic rescan.
Comment 7 Dan Sully 2006-08-18 16:29:24 UTC
Yes, but since this is really a 6.3 isn't blowing away the template cache, we have issues.

I think the proper thing to do here is to document (and for Kevin's team to be aware) of that OS X users who change versions should remove ~/Library/Caches/SlimServer/ and /Library/Caches/SlimServer (if it exists).

On Windows, it would be C:\Program Files\SlimServer\Cache

Kevin - can you add this to the FAQ?
Comment 8 Blackketter Dean 2006-09-16 19:37:24 UTC
Kevin: please add mac os x uninstall instructions to the FAQ, we'll address uninstaller software in a future release.

Resenting target and severity, as OSX installer work is planned for 8.0

You can right-click on the pref pane icon to uninstall on mac.
