Description Kim Kruse Petersen 2006-06-21 11:31:48 UTC
Hi,

It is mentioned, that the problem is solved. In most cases it is, but I have still expirienced small clicks or a very little gap between tracks.

An example is Beethoven, 5. piano koncert, (Rattle, Brendel), the transition attacca between 2. and 3. movement introduce an annoying small noise.

It is ripped with EAC, DBpowerAmp, Easy CD-DA extractor - all same problem. But trying to burn a CD directly from the FLAC-files do not introduce any clicks or gaps. This fact eliminates the potential ripper problem.

Transcoding to WAV may solve the problem, but I dont see it as an solution.

Hi Kim,

Are you ripping to individual FLAC files per track, or one large FLAC file per CD, with a CUE sheet?

What version of Slimserver are you running? (6.3?)

Also, are you playing back on multiple synced players, or an individual player?

Thanks for any info!

Hi,

Sorry for being unprecise.!

I am ripping individual FLAC files per track.

The slimserver is version 6.3 Firmware 54

I am running on an individual player.

Hope this help! It is a little frustrating especially with opera, because anything else is just so fine

Regards

Kim

Kim, the tracks I have been testing with do play back gaplessly. It would be really useful if you could attach the FLAC files you mentioned below to this bug report for further investigation.

Thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard

I would be happy to send you at least to FLAC-files. But as they are huge, I dont know how to do it.

But - in "mos"t cases there are NO gaps between the tracks, but a very clearly and VERY annoying "Click". Try fx. the new Paul Simon "Surprice" between track 9 and 10 - the are mixed without any gap. But on my equipment, there is a very clear "click".

The rib has been done with EAC (100% with accurip - if that is any garantie for anything), dbpoweramp, and Easy CD-DA. All same problem.

I will try to find to flac-files of a smal size and will send them to you.

I've just been listening heavily to gapless flac files as part of my work on bug 2095, and although I can hear that bug's problem, I can't hear an issue with audio.

HOWEVER, the fact that ac3 files encoded in flac don't play gaplessly indicates to me there is some kind of problem, and THAT I can reproduce using the files attached to that bug.

i.e. these bugs may be duplicates.

Sorry, I made a mistake. I meant to say bug 2990, NOT 2095.

I have attached the end of track 9 and start of track 10 from Paul Simon's Surprise to this bug. I can confirm a small click occurs between these tracks. I will look into this in more detail to see what is going wrong.

Kim I have investigated this bug report again today using the tracks you mentioned from the Paul Simon CD. I found that the tracks do playback perfectly with replay gain disabled (in the player settings, audio menu). What option do you have selected in that menu? Disabled and Album gain should work perfectly. Track gain may introduce clicks between the tracks. "Smart" gain may work ok or click depending on how you albums are tagged, etc.

I am going to close this bug as Works For Me. Please let me know if changing the reply gain setting fixes your problem, and if not feel free to reopen the bug. Thanks.

Hi Richard!
Now back from vancancy, I have tried the different settings regarding gain. It was actually not invoked.

Unfurtuately, I still hear a small click between the tracks.

Next step now is to try with your rips. I will let you know about the result, becase it might be some strange problems during ripping. (?)

Richard,
I have now tried with your samples of track 9 and 10. They also works fine for me, no clics at all.
The problem must be in my ripping (ripped trough EAC and the "standard" settings).

I will close the bug and try fixing the ripping problem.

Thanks a lot for your understanding and patience.

Kim
