I have two perl's on my server, and the one in /usr/bin/perl is somehow broken and won't run the slimserver. To start the slimserver I use '/usr/local/bin/perl slimserver.pl'. The scanner.pl is by default uses /usr/bin/perl and therefore does not run, it should be started with the same version of perl that the slimserver is using.

Fixed in change 7953

Change 7953 breaks the scanner for (at least) two different Windows systems. See http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24712
