Bugzilla – Bug 3516
Clicking sound between songs when WAV 48K is streamed as Flac
Last modified: 2008-09-15 14:38:25 UTC
I have WAV 48 KHz files with cue sheets (EAC) which I up sampled from EAC ripped 44.1 KHz files to 48 KHz files with Adobe Audition. When I stream the WAV 48 as Flacs (since WAV 48 can't be streamed as it is) I notice slight clicking sound between songs. The clicking seems to stem from slightly cut up beginning of songs. This is pretty ironic since I reported the same condition with Applelossless (44.1) and I moved to PC thinking that the probem won't be there with Flacs... I hope there is a cure for this. Hiroyuki
Do this for me, would you Hiroyuki? As your 48KHz wav file is playing, hit the right arrow, and scroll down to see what sample rate the file is playing at. It should say 48KHz of course, but I'd just like to make sure.
Subject: Re: Clicking sound between songs when WAV 48K is streamed as Flac Chris, The displayed sample rate is 48KHz and my other equipments are also indicating 48KHz so I'm certain that it's 48KHz (flac 48 that is). I did see another bug report about flac 48KHz being streamed as WAV 44.1Kz. That's not the case here. I really would really love this to be fixed. One of my audio friend had this to say about it: > The Slimserver interruption is probably caused by the fact that for > each song Slimserver fill up the buffer and lets it run out at the > end of the song, before it starts to fill the buffer for the next > song. I do not understand why they do not keep on filling the > buffer across the track change, which will eliminate the problem. Does that make sense? Thank you for getting back to me so quick. Hiroyuki, here is what I did. 1) Use EAC to rip a whole CD to a wav file with cue sheet. This results in a very large wav file at 44.1KHz. 2) Use Audacity to resample the wav file to 48KHz. This wave file is even larger. 3) Hit rescan to add the new tracks to the Slimserver database. 4) Using my web browser, I went into Slimserver -> server settings -> File Types. Here, I made sure of the following: File Format Stream Format Decoder (X) WAV FLAC flac <-- It should be streaming in FLAC as you describe ( ) WAV WAV (built-in) <-- Unchecked, just to make sure there's no possibility 5) Added all the tracks on the CD I just ripped to the playlist (in order). I put some other tracks at the beginning and end of the playlist just to test things. 4) Listened to the playlist straight through without shuffle or repeat. I didn't hear the clicking you describe. Are you doing anything different than what I describe that might explain why you hear the clicking and I don't?
Subject: Re: Clicking sound between songs when WAV 48K is streamed as Flac Chris, The clicking itself is not audible. In another words, if the song is not continuous, individual songs with gaps in between, you won't hear anything. Unless, the song doesn't have any silence at the beginning. In that case, you hear the beginning slightly cut off. Please try live recording without any gap in between songs or orchestral works without stops between sections. It's really annoying to get this during good part of symphonic works... Richard: did your gapless flac work address this issue?
It seems to have fixed this issue, at least on my system. Hiroyuki, can you verify that 6.3 does not have this problem?
Subject: Re: Clicking sound between songs when WAV 48K is streamed as Flac Chris, I couldn't get to test it last night but I emailed my friend who has the same problem and he tested it. You guys did take care of it according to him! Amazing! Such a fast job! I will test it myself this morning and let you guys know.
