Description Will Berriss 2006-06-08 03:26:04 UTC
Hi,

I just installed the 6.5b slimserver and softsqueeze on Ubuntu 5.10 from a single .deb file,
which I obtained from the slimdevices website.

For starters, for some reason when I run Softsqueeze it says I am running softsqueeze 6.2
with server 6.5b and that I should upgrade, yet they are both from the same deb file.
(This _might_ be the cause of my following problem, or might not.)

The problem I have is with Browse->ARTISTS and Search->ARTISTS modes.
When I do a search or browse, if I try to select an album from via the Artist route,
and press play to play the whole album, it just plays the ONE track
and puts only this ONE track in the playlist.
(Yes, I have told the server to play ALL tracks not just one.)

If I Search or Browse via Albums (instead of via Artists list) then things works as expected,
i.e. if I hit play on the album it plays
all tracks and also if I try to add to the playlist is does add all the tracks.

So it seems that Browse (and the Search) via the ARTISTS method does not work properly.

I am new to Slimserver/Softsqueeze but I have read the manual and I'm sure I am doing things
properly. It works OK for Album browsing/searching but not for ARTISTS, so I think the
Artists browse/search mechanisms are faulty.

All my music is FLAC encoded using /usr/bin/flac on my Ubuntu box.

Thanks.

Thanks for the report Will.

Please keep in mind that 6.5 is beta. If you want stability, please use the 6.2.2 release, or the 6.3 nightlies.

Thanks

Fair enough. However, to install slimserver all I did was add the following to the file
/etc/apt/sources.list

  deb http://debian.slimdevices.com stable main

and then I simply did:

  apt-get install slimserver

I didn't get choice of 6.2 or 6.5b. Should I have got a choice? If so, how?

Finally, is this a bug in the slimserver server or in the softsqueeze client? I ask because
I am going to buy a real/hardware Squeezebox2 and I am wondering if this faulty behaviour
will occur on the real Squeezebox too. I guess as the firmware comes from the slimserver that
the Squeezeboc2 will exhibit this bug too, so I really do need to sort out how to
get a properly working version of slimserver. (Note that I need a recent version, e.g. 6.5, though
since I am hoping bug 1434 will be fixed so my FLAC files plaback gaplessly properly.)

Any advice/feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

This has been fixed in the latest nightly builds.

Will - the Debian package right now is only for 6.5 - there were changes to the code base that were needed. These were not backported to 6.2.2/6.3
