Description Mark White 2006-05-18 22:30:08 UTC
I just downloaded update to Slim Sever (6.2.2 / Firmware Version 48) After scanning using "scan only new music" option, many albums now have duplicate tracks. NOT ALL albums, and NOT ALL tracks; but numerous albums with 2-3 duplicated tracks each. In my scans prior to download of update, this was NOT an issue. I estimate 1/3 of my albums are affected.

Here's an example of the duplicate problem (only tracks 1 and 9 have been duplicated):

1. At Least That's What You Said from A Ghost is Born by Wilco

Ok, two weeks later and this is still an issue. Majority of newly entered CDs have 2-4 duplicated tracks; a couple albums are duplicated in entirety. As far as I can tell, downloaded MP3s from emusic.com do not suffer this issue. Only CDs that I have burnt into iTunes. I've tried rescanning entire library, to no avail.

Here's another example:

 	  	 1. Old Dan Tucker from We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions by Bruce Springsteen
 	  	 2. Jesse James from We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions by Bruce Springsteen
 	  	 3. Mrs. McGrath from We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions by Bruce Springsteen

Dan, how does the "scan only new music" function work? Does it compare file timestamps? Perhaps Mark has some programming that's touching some of his files?
Comment 3 Dan Sully 2006-06-06 14:59:40 UTC
It checks the timestamp and size of the file to determine if the file has changed.
Comment 4 Dan Sully 2006-06-06 17:49:17 UTC
Mark - are those files in a playlist perhaps? Are you using iTunes as well?

If so, can you send the playlist in question (what program created it?).

And if you are using iTunes, could you send your iTunes xml file?

Do you have a music folder path set as well as using iTunes?

Can you try removing the music folder path, and doing a wipe & rescan?

Thanks

I followed your lead and went through entire Server configuration on Slim
Server and found these settings:

iTunes Music Library.xml Location
iTunes Music Folder

In each case a path had been generated by default when I originally set
SlimServer up. I deleted these paths, along with the Music Folder Path, and
that did the trick. As far as I can tell, all dupes disappeared after wiping
and rescanning. No more track dupes, and no more album dupes. Everything is
back to normal.

So, it appears that my bug is fixed. Too many settings to keep track of for
idiots like myself.

Thanks for the leads.

Subject: RE: Duplicate tracks after rescanning; immediately after downloading updated Slim Sever

FYI: I've also tried to rescan entire library, but no improvement on this
issue. Also, after more checking, both MP3 source files and CD-burned files
are affected, and I have one full album dupe as well. I'm not touching any
of the files once they have downloaded or burned, so I'm not altering the
files knowingly in any way.

Thanks for checking into this.

It checks the timestamp and size of the file to determine if the file has
changed.
