Bugzilla – Bug 3152
gain setting for files without replaygain
Last modified: 2013-06-07 15:42:46 UTC
Foobar and the shibatch plugin for WinAmp have a setting where you can set the gain value for files that have no replaygain tag. I'd like to see something like that in SlimServer. Usage example: I have a lot of Rock Albums in my collection. Mostly they are replaygained around -6 to -8 dB. If I happen to play an untagged song its a lot (6 to 8 dB) louder than the rest. A gain value of around -7 dB for files without replaygain information would help that. I'd love to see something like that in SlimServer. I would even try myself if you can give me a hint where to find the subroutines.
perhaps have a look at Slim/Player/RepayGain.pm, Slim/Player/Source.pm and possibly Slim/Utils/SoundCheck.pm (itunes variant of replay gain)
This is described here (http://replaygain.hydrogenaudio.org/player_scale.html). Perhaps a pref. to choose the gain value to use when no the file (or stream) has no gain (one for local files, one for streams?)?
Sorry, that should have said: Perhaps a pref. to choose the gain value to use when the file (or stream) has no gain (one for local files, one for streams?)?
One other thought: In the case where one RG value is missing, does SqueezeCentre currently use the other? That is, use track when in album mode if album gain is missing (and visa versa).
One final comment!. Bug 4335 is (perhaps sort of) related.
bug 2431
winamp has this feature natively for quite a while now, as well as a RG "preamp" which essentially allows you to adjust the reference RG level.
I'd also like to see a preamp setting in SBS (and TinySBS) like foobar's replaygain preamp where you can set separate levels for files with replaygain tags and for files without them. For example, +3 dB for files with replaygain tags and -6 dB for files without. This would be a great add to the current replaygain settings.
Unassigned bugs cannot have a priority.
