Description Marc Auslander 2006-03-09 06:19:55 UTC
My wireless set up has two access points to cover my whole house. The SB3 seems to get "stuck" talking to the weaker of the two at signal strengths of 30-50% even thought the better choice gives 60-80% strength.

If I restart the SB3 (hold down the power button till it restarts) it will associate with the strong access point. But eventually, it will switch to the weak one and apparently stay there.

The "strong" access point is a Linksys WRT56G V2. The "weak" one is an old IBM High Rate router. I am running the network B only since the IBM and my Laptop are B only devices.

I also suspect (its hard to prove) that when the SB3 switches access points, it drops the connection - in the sense that it stop playing and you need to press play to resume. I was listening to internet radio.

As of Firmware 43, I cannot reproduce this problem. Access point switching appears to be working between a Linksys wrt54g in mixed b/g mode and an old IBM High Rate in B only mode.

I'm seeing this behaviour with latest 6.3 and firmware 54. I'm not sure it ever really went away - its a little hard to pin down. But right now, my SB3 is associated with the "wrong" AP in my house, and I'm seeing:

    < 10 : 0 : 0%
    < 20 : 4 : 0%
    < 30 : 324 : 33% ################
    < 40 : 565 : 57% ############################
    < 50 : 29 : 3% #
    < 60 : 74 : 7% ###
    < 70 : 0 : 0%
    < 80 : 0 : 0%
    < 90 : 0 : 0%
   < 100 : 0 : 0%
   >=100 :        0 :  0%
    max : 58.000000
    min : 16.000000
    avg : 32.255020

yet it hasn't switched over.

I think it switches to the "bad" AP when the "good" AP restarts - and then it seems to stick.

I just went from 60 to 62 and this behavior has changed dramatically. My SB now goes back to the stronger access point almost immediately if I force it off by resetting the stronger access point. So I am closing this.
