Description Ron Thigpen 2006-03-06 12:17:27 UTC
Would like to be able to synchronize play of Pandora across multiple players.

Sync play is one of the SB's key features for my use. I use two players in different zones of the house and love being able to enjoy the same audio programming as I move about. Sync play is also a major differentiator between SB and the Apple solutions.

For most other content available over the SN link, this doesn't much matter. I can simply switch back to my local SS instance and sync from there. Pandora is different in that I can't initiate playback from my local SS.

I realize this feature may be difficult to achieve, as I don't believe the SN server isn't much involved in playback after the initial connection is made.

Some ideas on approaches:
1) Involve the SN server in some sort of sync operations occasionally during the life of an SB to SN/Pandora connection.
2) Add sync'ing function directly on the Pandora streaming server
3) Implement some sort of sidelong sync capability directly between the SB boxes themselves
4) Figure out a way to properly secure the Pandora connections such that the local SS can be allowed to support them.

This has to be a key fix. No synching for Pandora or Squeezenet in general? Why bother having this thing if you cant synch it for all services. For many, this system is a replacment for wiring your house. If I cant listen to the same music in every room I have a Squeezebox, synched, it completely loses its value to me. I loved using the Pandara service when I had one unit. Now that I have 2 I dont use it much becuase I cant synch it. Please fix! Thanks. -Jim

Ditto on the all zones or no zones. I have been trialling Rhapsody, but without being able to synch to my other players I have decided to just go back to my personal library. Too bad, becuase I really liked the variation of music offerings that the service provided.

Sync Pandora does not work in latest nightly (8-30). Not sure if this is intentional or not, but if the players are synced, and Pandora is selected on either, it starts 2 seperate Pandora instances - one on each player

Server: XP
Hardware: SB3, Slimp3 (emulated)

Pause / Play of the 2 streams appears to work from either station. (need to double-check)

A huge sync patch is coming very soon, and it will include support for properly syncing Pandora. Stay tuned!

I've just checked in a large patch to the SlimServer 7 sync code, thanks to Alan Young. Please retest this issue.

Checked - appears to work great from the (8-31) nightly. Sync works much better, pandora sync works, too!

Thank you Thank you Thank you.
Just installed the nightly build and got sync'd Pandora working straight away.
Nice work and thanks again.
Have a great weekend!!!!

So, this should be fixed for most users due to the fact that Pandora and syncing is now available through Squeezecenter 7.0.

For users connected only to the SqueezeNetwork servers, there may be some issues right because there is no hard guarantee that multiple clients will all connect to the same SN server instance. Andy and Brandon discussed in a meeting today some kind of 'stickiness' where the SN system will try to steer clients that are likely to be in the same location to the same server, perhaps based on IP or SN account.

I've changed the summary of the bug to reflect this remaining issue.

Will review the outstanding SN bugs after 7.0 ships.
