Description Kevin Pearsall 2006-03-04 18:46:02 UTC
we don't have one of these routers... can we pick one up?
Comment 1 Richard Titmuss 2006-04-05 13:33:56 UTC
Do you know what sort of problems, does it not connect, WPA fails or the wrong IP address is assigned?
Comment 2 Chris 2006-04-05 14:04:46 UTC
After going through network setup, the SB2 connects fine at first, then after a random amount of time it loses connection to the router (screen goes blank). If you leave it long enough, it will eventually reconnect automatically. Otherwise, the only way to reconnect to the router is to go through network setup again.

This happens both with DHCP and static addresses. (I'm using WPA encryption).

There is another separate problem:

When using SqueezeNetwork, the SB2 needs to access a DNS server to resolve the SN address. When connecting via DHCP, the DNS server address should be provided by the router (which has already acquired a valid DNS server address). But for some reason, the SB2 can't get the DNS server address from the router.

The only way to connect the SB2 to SN is to set up networking using static addresses, and manually input the DNS server address into the SB2.

This sounds like a dhcp auto-ip assignment problem. I have a fix that should appear in firmware 37. Will update this bug when it's available for download.

FW 37 has exactly the same problem....

Comment 5 Richard Titmuss 2006-04-18 12:03:35 UTC
Ready for Chris to test with firmware 41.
Comment 6 Chris 2006-04-18 16:28:11 UTC
Problem still occurs with FW41...

But I've managed to find out some new information:

When the screen goes blank, pressing the remote gives a "Connecting to SlimServer" mesage, and then the screen goes blank again. So the player obviously can't see the server.

But if I then try to ping the player from the server, the pings succeed and the player immediately wakes up in whatever state it was in before the connection was lost. The player then stays connected for a few hours until the connection drops again.

Does that help narrow down the problem?

Oh yes, and the SqueezeNetwork problem seems to be fixed now. Thanks!

Chris

I didn't see any problems when I connected to this router briefly today. I'll put it on my list to leave it running overnight before I leave today.
Comment 8 Chris 2006-04-20 11:01:48 UTC
No change with firmware 43 - the player still disconnects randomly.

Well I've been having a few more problems with my router recently, so I've exchanged it for a new one. And the new router works perfectly with no disconnections!! So I assume there must have been a fault with my old router.

The new router is identical to the old one (DG834Gv2 with 3.01.25 firmware) so I reckon this bug can be rejected and closed.

Sorry if I've led anyone on a wild goose chase!!

I'm glad to hear it's working for you, Chris.

I'll close this bug for now. You're welcome to re-open it if you continue to have problems!
