Bugzilla – Bug 3080
SB3 Hangs every day since loading 6.5 beta
Last modified: 2008-12-18 11:38:58 UTC
Over the weekend I loaded 6.5 beta and firmwar 35 to my SS and SB3. (2/25/06 release) I run Win XP together with Belkin wireless Adsl Modem Router. Prior to the upgrade in SS and SB I have had no issues. Byt now the SB3 freezes every day when powered down and running the time date screensaver. I must disconnect power supply in order to get SB3 back up and running and responsive. I do not know if this is specific to the screensave that I use (standard date and time) but the issue is a real pain. The only good thing is that when the unit is on and playing it works fine. the issue seems limited to when the unit is off and idle. Do not know why it should hang/feeze but it does. How can I resove this.. I have posted in the forums but no help yet http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21547. Last night I upgraded to the latest nightly build (2/28/06 release) but the issue still remains... the SB3 hangs!! ANy help is appreciated thanks Richard
please use 6.2.2 builds if you need stable operation. 6.5 is a developement build and should be considered experimental

Richard: Some questions: When it hangs, can you press and hold the left arrow button to return to setup? Also, does rebooting the access point also fix the lockup? What model access point are you using? Finally, if you move back to 6.2.2 does the problem remain? (The firmware on the 6.2.2 nightlies is the same as in the 6.5 releases.)

Thanks Richard
(Hi Dean.. tries to hold left arrow down and that does force a restart without the need to unplug the SB3 will still downgrade to 6.2.2 but out of interest is this a bug with 6.5 and my router?
a problem with yoru router would likely be firmware related, and not tied to 6.5, but to FW version 35 (current version in bother 6.5 and 6.2.2. Trying 6.2.2 will eliminate many of the other variables at play with 6.5.

Trying > 6.2.2 will eliminate many of the other variables at play with 6.5. > thanks for the advice.. following on from my previous posts I tried to scale back to 6.2.2 .. but screwed it up royally... I have posted a thread asking for advice generally on effecting upgrades to SS http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=90784#post90784 After screwing things up I had to uninstal and start from scratch..so I am now on ss 6.2.1 and firmware 35 (i believe) any guidance you can give on upgrades etc.. as set out in my post would be appreciated... for what it is worth.. I wanted to move to 6.5 so that I can use the Nokia 770 skin I would happily move on to 6.2.2 .. but not sure how to get it to work properly and am confused about what I need to do with the perlscripts folder downloaded from the nightly thanks
you shoule download the EXE, not the perscripts. installing 6.2.2 over 6.2.1 should work ok, installing 6.2.2 over 6.5 isn't tested, or recommended. In the latter case, it is best to uninstall then install.
It appears that bug 3093 and 3080 are duplicates. Closing 3080, let's move it all to 3093 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 3093 ***
