Description Chris Doherty 2006-02-23 22:15:54 UTC
SB2, firmware 35. SlimServer, hub, and switch specs below.

any configuration of plugging the SB2 directly into the switch causes the SB2 to display the "ethernet not connected" message. if the SB2 is plugged into the hub, even if the hub is just plugged in to the switch, the SB2 senses the connection. i.e.

works:
  SB2 -> hub -> switch -> wireless AP -> DSL
  SB2 -> hub -> wireless AP -> DSL

doesn't work:
  SB2 -> switch -> DSL
  SB2 -> switch -> hub -> DSL

it doesn't matter where I've plugged in the SlimServer machine, or even where I've plugged in the switch--the SB2 is only sensitive to whether it's plugged in to the hub or the switch.

all ports on both hub and switch work properly, as do all cables.

switch: Netgear 5-port 10/100 FS105
hub: Transition Networks Pocket Hub-5 E-TBT-HB-0500
SlimServer 6.5/trunk r6357, Debian unstable on an AMD 2GHz.

Chris, I've never seen this particular failure, we test with a lot of switches and hubs here, including that switch model you are having problems with.

Hard to say from here if it's the switch, the player or the cable, but it's certainly a hardware failure somewhere.

If it's a continuing problem, contact support@slimdevices.com for additional troubleshooting and possible exchange.
