Description Greg Dowling 2006-02-19 13:19:59 UTC
I've been trying to track this down for a while - but still haven't a 100% reproduceable case.

I use my SB2 as a wireless bridge - connecting the SlimServer PC via 100M ethernet. This work fine - and will play music forever without problems.

However if I do something very intensive dragging data off the SlimServer PC which uses SB2 as it's wireless bridge - I get an interesting firmware crash.

First I stop getting network access vis the bridge, and at the same time the SB2 display freezes. Music keeps playing though - although with some 'crackles' (I use the digital out). Once the track is finished the SB2 then completely freezes.

A power off will reset it - and as long as I don't talk to the PC via the bridge I don't see any problems.

In normal non-intensive use I see occasional similar crashes as long as I'm using the laptop through the bridge - but they happen much more often if I'm backing up files or viewing photos that put a lot of traffic through the bridge.

I'm using a linksys WAG54Gv2 with recent firmware, and a mix of B & G on the WLAN. In the crash the laptop is running B and the SB2 G - although I still see the problem when I run everything in B. I'm running 6.2.1 & firmware 28.

Greg, can you try upgrading to the soon-to-be-released 6.2.2 and see if the issue still occurs? The Squeezebox firmware has been updated significantly and should be much more stable.

Dean / Richard,

Didn't see your question at the time.

Unfortunately my music server has been victim to the 'bad caps' problem - and so is out of action until Hush replace the motherboard - it's been a few weeks to work out what's wrong - and will be a few more weeks until my server is back in action.

I have an alternative SlimServer set-up - but not easy for me to stress the Wireless Bridge in the same way.

I did upgrade to 6.2.2 - and I think I was still seeing the problem but can't be 100% sure.

Very happy to test again when my Hush PC is back in action.

Oop, this network card Dean dug up in his garden for me is only 10Mbps. Need to test with some real hardware.

I have been testing this with firmware 54 (not yet released). The bridge sustained > 22 Mbps while playing several tracks in mp3, flac and wma formats. The SB3 did not crash. I think this bug must have been fixed during the recent firmware changes.

The only problem that I did experience was the occasional break in audio caused by a buffer underrun due to the high wirless network traffic.

Greg if you still have this problem using slimserver 6.3 please reopen the bug and we will try to work out how to recreate it.

Richard,

I have my set-up working again - ans with latest firmware I can no longer reproduce this. It wasn't hard to reproduce before - so I'm sure the new firmware has resolved it.

Great news - thanks.
