Description Joe Willis 2006-02-14 11:10:16 UTC
*The SB3 was playing music off of the slimserver.
*The SB3 was connected to the server using the LINKSYS WRT54GX v2 router.
*I modified router security settings & saved them while the SB3 was still connected & running.

*The screen stopped responding to the remote, yet the graphic EQ still functioned.
*I tried holding 'left' on the remote to back out to the setup screen.

Instead, I received a 'malloc_failed" message

This Bug is occurs in Firmware 33.

I changed from WEP to WPA. When I tried to enter the WPA password, I recieved "malloc failed" and the device rebooted. After the reboot completed, I was able to enter my WPA password and proceed normally.

This occurred with firmware 41.

Whoa... I just got this with firmware 45 while entering a WPA key into an SB2. Displayed "malloc failed." for a few seconds and then rebooted, after which it then went directly into the setup.

F**k. I can't even key in my 63 characater WPA key now. Every time, 1/2 way through, I get the malloc error.

Jim, let's get your player working again first: do a firmware reset by pressing + on the remote while plugging in the power into the player. You will then be able to get through the setup again. I have having trouble recreating the malloc failed message in setup that you have reported. Did you change the router settings as well, for example from WPA to WEP - that can cause this error.
Comment 6 Richard Titmuss 2006-05-25 11:48:40 UTC
I cannot recreate this error now with firmware 50.
Comment 7 Jim McAtee 2006-05-25 12:20:44 UTC
I believe this was cleared up in firmware 48. Sorry about not reporting back.
Comment 8 Chris Owens 2006-05-25 15:47:00 UTC
Verified fixed in fw50
