Description Kevin Pearsall 2006-02-09 17:57:39 UTC
...even though jvc_dvd is disabled in player settings.

customer reported issue, not reproduced yet:
I not too long ago purchased a squeezebox2. I absolutely love the thing. They only problem I am having is with the firmware updates. As my DVD player is a JVC, any time I press fast-forward for more then 2 seconds, the player does a firmware update. I am running Slimserver 6.2.1-5194 Win XP-EN CP1252. The player is currently on firmware 28. I have unchecked the JVC DVD remote on slimserver, restarted the player and server and the updates still happen. I have even diabled all remote functions. Everything else is working fine, I just dont want the player updating and restarting every time I fast forward while watching a DVD. This must be a firmware thing.

unchecking the jvc remote won't help, of course, becuase the firmware update trip is hardcoded in the firmware, and should be a fairly long hold regardless or what button is putting out the same code. Those couple of users who have lost their slim remotes and wondered how to trigger fw updates might be pleased if this is really a true case :)

Subject: Re: New: jvc dvd remote trips firmware update when pressing/holding ffwd

Kevin: the tradeoff here is that if we disable the brightness trigger
for the mapped JVC code, if somebody is using a non-Slim Devices
remote, they'll need to dig out the original remote to do firmware
upgrades (or set it up for auto upgrade). I think that this is
probably ok, but I wanted your feedback.

Maybe a couple new menu settings in initial setup could be added so that the end user could choose to disable the JVC Remote. And another for the customer to select if they want to have auto firmware updates.

Sam - customer with the problem.

This has been fixed in fw33. Upgrade triggers require the Slim Devices remote or using the "auto update" setting. Please try the latest nightly.
