Moving bugs that won't be immediately fixed in 6.1 release. Please review and update if this is an error
or if this bug has already been fixed. Thanks.

The summary doesn't match the "all" platform specification - shouldn't it be
"Add NATIVE support for Real Audio streams".
Comment 4 KDF 2005-07-29 10:58:19 UTC
this is old enough that it was prbably in response to alienBBC when it was linux
only. at the time, there was no support (not even transcoded). as for OS
selection, there isn't any way to choose two, so all is as applicable (or not)
as any :)

retitling to native, since third party support is already there. for
squeezeNetwork to handle real, it needs to be native anyway.

Any chance that this might make it into a future FW release for SB2/3.
would like to be able to play BBC radio stations from within SqueezeNetwork.

Shouldn't this be changed from a Slimserver bug to SqueezeBox

BTW - I just discovered this https://helixcommunity.org/content/licenses page which mentions some recent changes to the licensing model for Real's open source Helix project. Licensees can now include source in projects like Slims FW without having to open source the result. From the site.
Many organizations want to use Helix for commercial products, such as putting a media player on a mobile phone or set top box. If you require a non-open source commercial license, Helix DNA is available under the RCSL. There is a free Research & Development use license. Modifications to the Helix DNA itself are required to be granted back to the Helix Community, but applications built on top of the Helix DNA are not.

Dear Kevin,
now that Rhapsody (realnetworks) is supported is this not finally an opportunity to get native support for the real streaming format?
Many thanks

Jaap

Having bought both an Acoustic Energy Wifi radio and a SqueezeBox I have got to say that AE is much easier to use and would probably recommend that over SB to anybody who wants an easy setup. However, I personally love the features and functionality of the SB, especially the integration between Pandora and SN.

The urgency of native RealAudio support is to improve usability for the majority of users. This could be delivered through the SN, although I doubt that SlimDevices would want to provide CPU power and necessary bandwidth for transcoding. Therefore, the most sensible option seems Native RealAudio support.

Kind regards

Jens

Dean doesn't work here any more :)

Real Audio is dead.
