Bugzilla – Bug 2882
Connected but just silence wnycam and wnycfm
Last modified: 2006-02-06 19:13:31 UTC
http://wnycfm.streamguys.com/ http://wnycam.streamguys.com/ These streams are both mono, one 24 and one 32 KB. Winamp will play them. When I connect to the slimserver and try to play them, I see: 2006-01-28 13:16:14.5168 Metadata byte not read, trying again: Resource temporarily unavailable ... 9 more times 2006-01-28 13:16:14.5311 metadata size: 0 ... repeat above continuously and hear nothing. The displays on both softsqueeze and the server look like the station is playing. I have tried using http://wnycfm.streamguys.com/listen.pls and http://www.wnyc.org/stream/wnycfm.pls with the same result. I have tried running slimserver on a Windows XP system and get the same result. I am behind a linksys wrt54g router talking to a moto surfboard 4100. I can stream other radio, including http://wnychi.streamguys.com/ which is the nighttime only hifi sterio feed for wnycfm. If I rip the mono stream with mplayer, I can play the resulting file correctly with slimserver.
When I reported this but I was using softsqueeze. I have since gotten my SB3. Using the SB3, I do NOT see this problem. Both stations play correctly. The same server continues to fail via softsqeeze running on WXP. Give that this is only softsqueeze, I'm not very concerned about this issue. You can close this if you like.
are these wma streams? one of the differences between SB3 and softsqueeze now is the native wma support in SB2/3. just a wild guess, not terribly valid. bouncing to richard, who might be interested to know about this before it's closed off.
they are monophonie low bit rate mp3 streams
Further investigation indicatest that this was a client problem. I was trying to run softsqueeze with the mp3 java plugin and there were errors in the softsqueeze console about unsuppored file type which probably has to do with this being a low bit rate mono stream. When i changed to jlayer softsqeeze plays. (I have no idea what jlayer is but it was the only other choice for mp3). I am too much of a novice to close this myself without prompting.
