is this on IE maybe?  This seems to work for me, playing all tracks from one album with valid artwork image in teh same folder.  If the images are in the tags, one song might have an image, and the next not?

having hardcoded height and width tags in the image would help though, since there is an odd flicker between renders, even with Firefox.  Could also use the hreftemplate "statusImg" item which does this.

Is this still an open issue for you? While working a little on other handheld problems I tried to reproduce this but did not succeed. I'm using Opera on Zaurus, though.
