Description Bruce Hartley 2005-12-23 00:03:48 UTC
Several people myself included require this functionality.

AV Equipment is in closed cabinet, Squeezebox is on top of cabinet in line of sight.
Squeezebox receives all IR commands from and repeats them over the IR blaster output.

Assume this would be a firmware enhancement, I think this worked at sometime in the past??

Felix: what do you think of making this a feature of the IRBlaster
plugin? I have no problem with a new mode for this, as long as it
handles feedback gracefully.

What do you think, Felix?

All my audio equipment is in one room, (with the boiler and washing machine!) and there is only a Squeezebox, IR repeater and speakers in the kitchen, living room and bedroom; so this enhancement wold work for my situation too, if someone else was to do the same or if I was to add another Squeezebox to the system

Ah, Bart, are you talking about repeating between players or just having a player act as a repeater on its own? (I like both ideas. :)

My intereset is in a single player acting as a repeater.
However one playing relaying to another that acts as a repeater sounds great, if you had a multi player setup and one player was near the amp, then that would be great for a lot of users I imagine.

I mean, having each player act as a repeater on it's own. This would save on having to buy a seperate IR repeater for each location. The repeaters I use (from Keene Electronics http://www.keene.co.uk/cgi-bin/bigcodesearch.pl?IRBKITS) are hardwired, so there would be no saving there, but there would be one less electronic item to look at

As was described by others, I would like to use this in a standalone fashion, with a single SB3 repeating out the headphone jack to a blaster, within a few feet. Ie., the SB3 sits on top of an equipment cabinet, and repeats the IR into the cabinet. I would LOVE IT if it were a hardware function (no delay) as opposed to being a software relay (possibility of the equipment receiving two signals if the first one ends before the repeat starts). So this would be a replacement for short distance IR repeaters. For my use, I wouldnt need to drive IR to another room, or through another player. If this were hardware based (or good enough in software) I will buy an SB3 to replace my SB. I need an IR repeater, so one way or another, I will be spending money. :)

I also would like to see an implementation like mentioned above, a fast en effcient way to control the devices inside the cabinet with the sb3 on top of the cabinet as a simple repeater.

This is working with the IRBlaster plugin in the latest firmware in the nightly releases.
