Bugzilla – Bug 2712
forum post mess up threads in mail client
Last modified: 2009-02-02 09:32:57 UTC
ie. two posts made in the webforum from the same user with different topics and a couple of minutes apart, have exactly the same Message-ID which mess up the threading in the email client. I'm running Thunderbird v1.0.5, but I assume this can/will happen in other email clients as well. I don't know how the Message-ID is calculated on the web forum side, but something is clearly not according to spec's ;)
I have noticed the same problem. I mentioned this in "discuss" on 2006-02-07: I've noticed that messages from fairyliquidizer tonight all have the same MessageID of "<fairyliquidizer.22vqeb@no-mx.forums.slimdevices.com>", and the References header entries are incorrect to. Perhaps it's localised to certain users, as this thread seems okay, but I've only seen it go wrong where the message that I've replied to has been posted via the forums.
Created attachment 1132 [details] Screenshot of forum mess in thunderbird Screenshot of the mess the Message-ID's create. In this case, it's Thunderbird v1.0.5.
Created attachment 1133 [details] Summary of some headers in some posts that are messed up in the screenshot Brief summary of the headers that cause the mess up in the threads. You can clearly see that the Message-ID generated for the posts are the same for multiple posts in different threads for the same user. You can also see that different users get the same suffix after their username. In this case it's ".22vppb@no-mx.forums.slimdevices.com" Client: Thunderbird v1.0.5 on WinXP
