Description zengelman 2005-11-30 06:55:23 UTC
I have an sb2 on my lan connected to my music slimserver on a host pc. I also have ssh tunneling set up and access this same slimserver using softsqueeze. We have a vacation house, where I would like to buy another sb and access my home slimserver over wan (sb-router-modem-wan-homeslimserver), instead of sb-pc-router-modem-wan-homepcslimsever.

Can you add to the sb firmware, in the slimserver location page, the ability to store and use the ssh tunneling, user id and password and ports, etc, similar to the softsqueeze stored parameters?

Thanks for the consideration.

If this materializes at some moment in the future, dont forget to add the "ssh through http proxy" feature, as softsqueeze has... :-)

will consider it for a future firmware version.

any updates on this or, if ssh tunneling is too complicated to add, then at least the ability to use a url instead of an ip address to remotely connect a SB to a slimserver over internet where using dyndns variable url and allow the ability to store a password for the slimserver verification/logon in the sb so at least have minimum security over remote access to slimserver?

Sorry, the hardware isn't powerful enough to handle SSL.
Comment 6 zengelman 2006-09-19 17:32:10 UTC
is ssl necessary to just allow for entering a url and storing the slimserver password for the server at the url, instead of entering an ip address, if the remote sb3 is behind a router?

SSL isn't necessary to specify a server via a domain name or use a
password.
